I have a pool/garden view booked at BVW and was given the last room in the hall facing toward the tennis courts. The maps are indicating that it is a standard room. Has this happened to anyone before? If they refund my points, they expire in 10 days with no availability. Any idea what they’d do? TIA (I arrived late tonight)

This happened to me (I was literally staring at the parking lot at the very end of the hall). I simply called the front desk stated that the room is classified as standard view. In my case they moved me and apologized and said the assigner didn't realize I booked with points. I was told that some standard rooms in points count as pool/garden view for cash guests.

I'd assume if for sure it was standard view they would do that or refund the points.

Did you go to the front desk and let them know? They might be able to move you if you given the wrong room.

But, if they cant, then a refund of points will happen. As you said, the problem is that you are traveling at the end of the UY, so it may be no use.

Is there any way to contact them before we arrive? I’m sitting in an airport waiting to go there now.

Just go to the front desk when you arrive. I was given this room at BLT as a lake view studio, saw it in the car from the airport. Went to the front desk, got switched to a 9th floor on the pool side.

Are you certain it faces the tennis courts and not the quiet pool? The even numbered rooms on that wing are G/P view and face the quiet pool. Odd numbered rooms are Standard view and face the tennis courts.

We arrived at 2am and the person at the desk assured me that it is a garden view. I’m pretty sure it’s a standard. Last room before you go out the door. And a view of this little fenced in area. Looks standard to me.6434A669-C389-4DA2-BF44-2519E401A1F2.jpeg

Yep, that looks like the Standard side of the hallway to me, too - odd numbered rooms. They’re probably trying to claim it as P/G because of the garden area and the tiny sliver of canal you can see from the patio.

If you plan to spend a lot of time on the patio, and the view is important to you, you probably need to go to the front desk this morning and ask to be moved. If not moved, some compensation for the points difference, such as a gift card, since your points are about to expire and a points refund would be meaningless.

Doesn't the MDE show you what type of room it is after you are assigned? I know it does on the cash side, have never been upgraded/downgraded on the DVC side.

Example -- Christmas of 2020 we had a standard view booked at Yacht Club. We got assigned a water view and the MDE indicated that was the type of room.

Looks like a garden view to me, looks like there is even some water in the background.. A standard view would be of a parking lot, roof, maintenance area, etc. Maybe not the best garden view, but not a standard.

Maybe I am out of the loop, but to me that looks like the mother of all garden views. Not sure about the pool part of the equation.

At BWV, for DVC points reservations, Standard villas look out onto the front entrance and the parking lots and toward the tennis courts on the south side of the building. Garden/Pool views look into the areas around the Luna Park pool and the quiet pool as well as the Activity Lawn down behind Jellyrolls. See map HERE - the green line indicates Standard views, and I think OP has the last room on the ground floor at the far bottom/left end of the green line. I agree it looks onto a wooded/garden like area, but I don't think it should be classified as a P/G view unless all the south-facing villas (looking onto the canal) on that wing are also classified as such.

They can and do change a specific room's category. Assuming that they don't create extra points out of thin air when they do it (they are offsetting elsewhere in the resort if there is a point difference), I do not see anything wrong with that. Based upon the picture, it looks like a garden room to me, regardless of whether or not it used to be a standard view.

Yes, I think that's the canal, which is the preferred side of the building. I once got the last VAKL Savannah View room on a hallway - it was Savannah View if you were happy sticking your head out over the balcony.

Looks standard to me too. Does it have an odd room number. Like 2137, then it’s standard. We stay at Bwv 4-5 trips a year. we Pretty much know where the standard rooms are.

We got upgraded from standard to p/g once at Boardwalk. MDE did update to reflect the category change. We were staying on points. (Did not cost additional points for the p/g room.)

In that case the OP could just look in MDE and see the room category......
