BWV once a year?

We currently rent points to stay at boardwalk or beach club each year. I wonder if it would make sense to purchase DVC for either of these resorts. Or is purchasing more for people who go to disney more than once a year? Thanks!

Once a year is a really good DVC use case. The benefit of ownership would be that you would control your 11-month booking and not be dependent on finding an owner with points. The downside would be the initial capital expenditure to buy in, and the annual dues commitment that couldn't be skipped (like just not booking a stay while renting).

If you like BW and BC equally, it might be good to get contracts equal to 1/2 of the points needed to book, then use bank and borrow to alternate years.

If you plan to continue going yearly, can book in the home priority window and can afford without financing then yes, it very likely could be a good purchase for you. For once a year I think I'd just pick my favorite and then plan to stay there and trade to the other if/when possible.

We bought our contract with the plan to go every other year in a 1BR while the kids still want to go. Once we can go on adult only trips we will be able to go yearly. So yes, yearly trips would most likely make DVC a good purchase via resale. You really need to work the numbers and determine if you will still plan on going there every year. Paying cash for the contract is where you have the biggest savings

Does Disney sell resale?

I received the information guide from Disney. So 134 points for a week at BWV (Magic season) would be what for a contract cost? How much does each point cost?

Disney does not sell resale contracts. there are a number of resale companies. Just google dvc resale and you should come up with the top ones. I personally used timeshare store and was very happy with the process of purchasing with them. There is a lot to learn about DVC and how it works for you so do read up on as much as you can.

Anything bought from Disney/DVC is considered direct. That includes the older resorts.

Anything bought from an owner is resale. The price difference between resale and direct for BWV makes it hard to financially justify buying direct from DVC.

Direct for BWV from Disney is $165/point.

Resale for a 150-point contract is likely to end up $95-105.

Now, if you are wealthy enough that $60-70 per point on a 150-point contract is a rounding error for you, I'd still recommend buying resale and sinking the difference into tax-deductible charitable giving after a chat with your advisor. :)

Ok. Thank you. I don't know if I can get DH on board with any purchase. It is just research and comparison shopping for now.

I would love to buy beach club or boardwalk but the 2042 expiration date scared me off. Am I right wanting more than 25 years for the amount I'm going to pay?

It's not wrong, but length of contract is just one consideration.

Would you be happy staying at the longer contract resort if you can't get into BCV or BWV at 7 months? Can/Would you book before 7 months? If you can't or won't regularly book before the 7 month window opens, your home resort really doesn't matter. Buy the least expensive, considering initial price and annual dues.

If where you stay does matter and you can/will plan 11 months in advance, home resort is very important. For example, it matters a LOT MORE than contract length to us, because we want to stay in a standard view villa at the BWV during the very popular fall and Holiday seasons (Food & Wine & early December). Busy times in the parks are not necessarily the same times one needs to book DVC villas early to get in. We just wouldn't be happy staying elsewhere (for more points in most cases) at those times.

Getting into a non-home resort depends heavily on the time of year you plan to travel and the booking category (size & view) you prefer. Here are a couple of the best posts discussing availability & booking challenges at 11 and 7 months:

We have some BWV points and love them. We go to F&W every year since 2013. We love BCV too but can sometimes save points by booking the standard view at BWV. We bought ours direct through DVC. We started with just 55 points which would be enough for a short trip for F&W (we have been doing 3-4 night trips for that since kids were still at home and in school...now they will all be off to college so we can do longer F&W trips and have a week this year). We shortly added another 25 and then another 25 for 105 total at BWV...all direct. Buying a smaller contract direct is not a bad plan because the price on smaller resales is higher than the larger ones and the closing costs direct are less. Plus you will get a fully loaded contract so those extra points are worth $15/point. For example, if you get 100 points resale but they are missing 2016 and 2017 points...that's 200 points you might get direct (if you get a UY from April-Dec and buy now). 200X15= $3000. If you also have or open a Disney Chase Visa you can buy with that and get the rewards dollars which I consider that going towards the closing costs to make them even less. And you get all the perks for buying direct...DVC priced APs, dining discounts, access to the member lounge at Epcot, ability to book member cruise, special member events...etc.

The cost per year of BWV/BCV is about the same as it is for other resorts with longer durations; you're just contracted to pay that longer. 25 years is a long time and the odds of your travel habits being stable for that long are very low.
