A Boardwalk view room is a great place to be on New Year's eve. We went back to our room to view the fireworks from EPCOT and were also able to watch the MK fireworks at the same time. I've never seen so many people on the Boardwalk as I did that night.

Last night (1/1/08) we went to bed and the Boardwalk lobby was still dressed up in it's finest Christmas decorations. This morning (1/2/08) at around 7:00 AM I headed down to get a cup of coffee at the Belle Vue Lounge and lo and behold, everything was gone. I mean everything. It was quite amazing what they were able to do in one night but it was also a realization that Christmas had passed us by for another year.

More people are leaving garbage in the hall than I've ever seen before. What's up with that? I wonder if there is a correlation between garbage in the hallways and the the increase in aisle holes in the theater shows (you know, the people who stop in the middle of the row). Seems like I saw a lot of them on this trip too.

The Boardwalk (the actual wooden thing outside) is really slippery when its wet. I saw another person take a tumble yesterday morning. I'm surprised Disney doesn't do something in it's never ending desire to aviod litigation to make the planks less slippery.

Community Hall is great. My two teenagers love to spend time there playing air hockey and ping pong. They didn't ask once to go to an arcade but spent a lot of quality time there.

On Monday we walked over 10 miles during our visits to EPCOT and MGM. It is great being able to walk to the two parks from the BWV's. There is no need to worrry about gaining an extra pound or two over the holdiays because you can walk it right off.

We had neighbors who kept their trash can in the hall during their stay. This was annoying because there was always a rotten food smell in front of our room.
What about the people who are shoving ahead in line to meet the rest of their"party?" This happened on quite a few rides during our stay.
Shouldn't Disney enforce a policy of people not getting in line before all members are present? :confused3

Boy it is crowded.

Yesterday at MGM for Little Mermaid we had FPs. When time came to enter the theater, I couldn't keep up with my hubby / daughter. People just keep shoving inbetween us... SO I told hubby to find seat for him and daughter, and to save one next to them and I'd catch up.

So I had to pass over about 10 people to join my party.

Now I know I could have been more forceful in defending our space, but my back is hurt and I'm trying to not jerk it around....

Just my viewpoint, of why I was trying to catch up with my family.....

HBC...sounds like another successful New Year's trip to WDW. :thumbsup2

I would think it would be kind of depressing to see all the decorations disappear overnight. But very efficient (wonder if I can hire some of those folks to clean up the Granny homesite?).

It's nice when you've been there, done that and can just really relax and enjoy the decorations and pageantry of WDW! I'm glad you and your family had a great time. Thanks for sharing your impressions with us. :)

I've gone sliding several times. In Dec 06, I had just refilled my coffee at the BW bakery and we were heading to Epcot. I lost it and and landed on my knee. Fortunately dd caught me and my mug before I totally wiped out. It seems like certain shoes slip on the wet planks more easily than others. My teva flip flops are the worse. I had thought it was a little better though, I didn't have any problems in November.

Glad you had a great time. I love that bw view.

How quaint! Most teenagers these days seem to be spending most of their time on their iphones and imacs. We think Community Hall is great too.

Thanks for the report, HBC!

By the way, it is a balmy -4 here in your other home. :scared1:

We stayed at BWV for the first time in Feb last year and noticed an awful lot of trash left outside rooms too - I really can't understand that but I assumed it was due to people not getting trash emptied every day. Never seen it at other DVC resorts though :confused3

Yep, I hear you on that one - twice I fell on the Boardwalk back in Feb - lucky for me it was 6am so not many people arouns to witness my less-than-graceful landing ;)

Glad you're having a good time - bet you can't wait to get back to -4 degree weather :scared1:

I fell on the Boardwalk once as well. I was walking on the straight planks, and my foot just slid, and I went down (I was wearing Crocs, and it was my birthday when it happened).

If the boards are wet, I walk on the slanted planks.

I hate trash in the hallways. When we rent a condo at the shore, we take our trash to the trash depository. We do the same thing at BWV, but I guess some people have the hotel mentality, where housekeeping takes care of everything like that.

thanks for the review.....

headed to BWV for the 1st time in april:cool1:

scary to hear about so many people falling:scared:

Can't stand trash in the hallway....i usually call the front desk
every day to tell them about the trash.....they usually come pretty quick.

It was very depressing. All of a sudden Christmas was gone.:confused3

Quaint isn't quite the word that comes into my mind. Isn't it even sadder when adults pine for those same iphones, imacs and things like wireless internet connections instead of just enjoying the simple things in life?;)

By the way, it is a balmy -4 here in your other home.

That's why it's closed up for the season 3DK. It's all the way up to 10 in the tropics of New York.;)

It's amazing how many people have now told me they saw someone fall, know someone who fell or fell themselves on the Boardwalk. I never heard much discussion about that before.

I haven't heard that one before either. Quite a few about people collapsing while trudging down the L...O...N...G hallways to their room but not much about the boardwalk itself.

We visit in the summer and it rains pretty much every day and hadn't noticed that. But I could see certain types of footwear being pretty susceptible to a slick wood surface.

You make me glad I stayed at SSR instead. They still had the decorations up and music playing Wednesday when I came home. And the weather was just cold enough to make me want to go home and enjoy my nice warm fire. I arrived to my nice, clean and decorated house, Christmas lights still glittering outside. Cranked up the gas fireplace, turned on the train garden (it's Disney themed this year and has lots of moving parts) and prepared to just settle in for the afterglow.

I'm one who thinks Christmas should be at least a month long holiday. What else is there to do in January?

Hey, don't knock us geeks! If it wasn't for my iPAQ, cell phone, Wii console, multiple laptops, gameboy and travel DVD player I'd be naked. Don't worry I do read books too. I just think they're cooler in electronic form.

I grew up headed to my Atlantic beach boardwalk. Do folks really not know how to walk on them? It's not a place for stillettos or slippery soles. Boat shoes and rubber sole sneakers.

We noticed more garbage in the halls as well this trip...and :rotfl2: "aisle holes" ...saw a few of them too!

HBC- Really enjoyed your New Year's report. We have just decided to spend our last day of 2009 in The World, and I'm hoping for the great BWV we had last June. My kids know I'm a sucker for a balcony with a view of fireworks ;) .

We had never had a BW view on New Year's before but we are now hooked. It was great to be able to sit on our own balcony, yet be in the center of all the activity and have such a great view. Our next New Year's trip will be in 2009-10 as well. Next year we have something else planned.

I really wasn't. Please note the ;) after my comments. It was VERY tongue-in-cheek. For those that know my family (and that includes the person who I responded to), know that we all are the same as you describe. If electronic fields have any effect on health, my home should have a warning sign.

Sounds like a wonderful new years eve. I sort of like how the decorations are swept away at night. Sort of like little elves :) Keeps the magic alive.
