hello peeps!!! I was lucky enough to finally switch my SSR ressie to BWV this weekend... it is a quick trip for my Aunt.. and am tryingf to cut driving time/travel time.. so which is better...

driving to DHS/EPCOT or taking the Boat???

My aunt is not equipt to walk that long so EPCOT is a questionable for walking.. how far is it???

TIA

Taking the boat to/from Epcot/BWV is very quick, there are no intermediate stops. Going to Studios from BWV by boat takes longer, but once you "see" it, you may want to get on/off at the Swan/Dolphin and do the short walk to BWV from that stop.

I do not think you gain anything at all from driving a car to either place from BWV.

Walking to Soarin/or Spaceship earth from the International Gateway will take awhile for someone who has trouble walking. Can she use an electric cart? There will be many fine things to see in Epcot due to the Flower/Garden show that's going on!

thanks!!!:dance3:

Also!! where is the food court for BWV... my Aunt is a big Soda drinkir so buying her that refill mug is worth it!! help!!

We were just in EPCOT this past weekend and went from BWV. The boat makes a circle from BWV to EPCOT to the Beach Club and then over to the Swan and Dolphin and finally to the Studios. The walk from BWV is short but there is a considerable hill as you walk over the canal. The boat ride is very pleasant - think of it as one of the theme park's rides! I agree that the ride to the Studios is much shorter if you walk over to the Swan because you get on before the last leg of the trip - but again there is a hill to walk up. In either case, the boat ride will take less time than driving, parking, and taking the tram to the gate of a park.

Unfortunately, there is no food court at BWV. There are several eateries on the Boardwalk but I am not sure where you would buy the refillable mug.

I believe the Boardwalk Bakery is the only place to get/refill mugs.

I did not get the mugs (for the first time in years, but my 1st BWV stay) last Nov because I did not find them until the end of the trip. And even if I found that earlier, I would pass due to the distance + the bakery was really small and often too crowded to make a quick pop in/out for a refill. (convient if you are getting on the boat, though)

The refillable mugs are at the Boardwalk Bakery.

If your aunt is a big time soda drinker, she'll probably be better off stocking the frig.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but...I think at BW Bakery, you show them the mug and they give you a drink NOT in the mug. Did I dream that?

FYI, since you mentioned a "food court".
If you are on the DDP and expect to have a large variety of counter service meals on the DDP, you will likely be very disapointed with the bakery's limited entree selection. (not bad food, just little entree variety)
The bakery makes their own heavenly deserts and great baked items, but entree selection is limited to some breakfast and lunch/dinner panini's (asembled off site) and possibly a salad. (The bar upstairs was supposed to have some breakfast items, but every time I looked last Nov, there was a sign to go downstairs)
If you are paying cash, there is a larger selection of quick service food, including slices of pizza at Spoodles window (might be the only good pizza that Mickey makes), and some food stands along the Boardwalk where you can get food like a hot dog and elephant ears.
There, is also several very good table service restaurants on the Boardwalk. And if you have the time, take the DHS boat to BCV, as they have more counter service food, plus Cape May, and the Yacht club has the steakhouse.. And of course nearby EPCOT world showcase has a ton of food....

If your aunt has mobility issues and can't walk. is she, or you going to rent her and ecv? If you do, check over at the disAbilities board FAQ stickies. In one of them they have offsite wheel chair, and ecv rentals. Right now its cheaper to rent offsite than on site, plus you get to use the scooter everywhere.

This way your aunt could use the scooter at the resort, on the boardwalk, scooter over to epcot, mgm not have to worry about the big hills, and being exhausted at the end of the evening.

We have used walker mobility several times, they drop it off at bell services the day you arrive, before you get there. Then you drop it off at bell services at the end of your trip.

other places are in the faqs in the stickie on the disability section of the dis

will def'ly just do the boat... a good excuse to give her a moment to breath in the moment...

I offered to get an ecv but she is the stubborn type.. so yup we are going to try top walk it... thats why I am trying to find shorter routes becausde I know she will not complain and tell me she is in pain :faint: Old School aunt !!!

We just returned from BWV. My dh bought a mug from the Boardwalk Villas and was able to get refills from the bakery as well as the Coffee Hut on the boardwalk. He was also able to get coffee refills from the lounge in the morning. He had the cup paid for the second day!!!

This is all good info for us. We are doing our first trip to BWV 6/3-8 for StarWarsWkend and I wasn't sure how the boat transportation worked. Thanks! :)

Please have your Aunt reconsider an ECV or wheelchair. Take her for a drive. Map out a mile on your cars odometer, then ask her if she'd be comfortable walking that far? If she says no, then explain that it is over a mile just around World Showcase at EPCOT.

If she still balks, also add that it is common for folks to walk 7 to 8 miles a day at WDW, often more, without batting an eye.

My guess is even if she refuses an ECV the first day at WDW, she will be miserable and be ready for an ECV by day two, especially once she sees how many other people need to use them.

Have a great time!!!! I hope your DAunt manages...Is she a tea drinker? Great Britain has a complimentary 20 minute tour of their gardens 3 times a day over the weekends. You have to sign up at the tea store, and the focus is on teas grown around the world and the herbs/spices that are used for flavor. Since GB is right at the start of Epcot coming from the International Gateway, it is something she may be able to do. Then go to France, again, not far from the entrance and "do" the tour of France's gardens, for fragrances. Go into France and see the movie. Get the schedule for these things from concierge desk, they should be able to tell you.

Take the boat. It is so quick to EPCOT and not too bad to HS. Still IMO faster than getting in car, parking etc. Plus it is worry free!

You did not dream it. Our coffee was put into cardboard cups and we transferred it into our refillable mugs. I was told it was something to do with a "health and safety" policy.
