I just got off the phone with MS and was informed that BWViews are not eligible for Cash nights. I asked if this was a written policy and was told NO. I asked if any other locations had a resrtiction and I was told NO. I asked why the restriction when no other resort or veiw had a restriction and was told dur to the number of rooms. That is a lousy answer. At the 11 window ALL room at your home resort are treated equally.

Anybody heard this before? Any advice to whom I shoul discuss this with?

As a BWV owner, I am glad they have this policy. This ensures all BW View rooms are available to owners only. Since cash nights come from the Disney owned portion.

I tried to get a cash room too and was also told no standard view rooms could be booked for cash, only pool/garden view.

Lampy,
I understand your relief but DVC hold the keys to the available inventory and could limit cash nights to "owners only" easily.

BTW; I was told differently than your understanding; Cash nights can be booked on ALL room categories except Boardwalk view. i.e. including Standard View rooms.

I also was been told in March 2006 that when I make a cash reservation that it could only be for a pool view. The Boardwalk view and the standard view was unavailable for cash. I ended up changing my standard view reservation to a pool view so I wouldn't have to change rooms in the middle of my stay.

They are renting out excess inventory derived mostly from member points exchanges. They can rent out, or not rent out, anything they want for any time. But as a rule they are trying to stay away from high demand items and I think they should. Certainly BWV would be high demand most any time of the year or any unit size. BW view is not the only restriction though. I know they have restrictions on which type of 2 BR they rent out for those that have different types. They also offer a cash discount for some items they offer for cash but not for others. It's a balance but this seems to be in the best interest of those that own at BWV which would of course be the important group to consider for this specific issue.

I've heard this before. I've also heard that the 2 bedroom/2 queen at BCV is not available for cash.

I agree with this. Member discount cash nights are supposed to be for nights they don't anticipate will be used for points. Rooms booked through CRO are not supposed to be boardwalk view either (CRO does not reserve a specific view, it's supposed to be whatever is left. It's rare a boardwalk or standard view would be open).

Ditto - BW view rooms are very popular and I agree that they should go to members willing to use points to reserve them.

Best wishes -

I've booked a BWV cash room through MS and was only able to get a pool or garden view. This was fine with me. Although I'm not a BWV owner, I think it is a good policy to not have BW View available via cash through MS....you can book cash through MS further out than your 7- or 11-month timeframe. It just wouldn't be fair.

In June, I was offered a SV studio at Boardwalk by MS for cash with a discount for a night in Oct. I thought it was odd, but the CM said that SV are sometimes offered for cash. It didn't help us fill in the blanks in our reservation, so we never booked it.

I tried to book a SV for next April with cash, but only PV was available when I checked in July. -- Suzanne

Prior to the advent of this policy (and of guaranteed BW views) I was able to book a Std View for cash. Since the advent of the BW View as a room catagory I have tried to do this again for Std View and for BW view and was told explicitly that Std and BW views are reserved for points ressies.

As with others posting here, I am good with this policy. :thumbsup2

Not trying to get too far afield here, but I was wondering about cash stays at BWV. When they did allow cash reservations for SV and BWV View, did they have different cash rates for the various views like other resorts?

There has only been one cash rate (per room size) for the WDW DVC resorts (probably for VB and HH, too, but I don't know for sure). AFAIK, cash guests have always been assigned as "run of the house" - in other words they could end up assigned to any room.

IIRC (always a risk, LOL), cash guests could get BW views prior to the advent of the unique booking category for the Boardwalk view. SV rooms are occasionally still assigned to cash guests, but that is rare (and was always rare).

I am not sure when the no cash reservations for the "2Q in the 2nd Bedroom units" at BCV began. I suspect around the same time, though.

Best wishes -

My understanding is that as a rule only the preferred views are rented on cash through MS and it's not specified through CRO. I understand that SV have been rented out in the past but there is no difference in rack rates for those rooms and DVC uses rack rates or 25% off rack rates. I am not aware of either SV or BW view being rented on cash specifically since the change where BW view was a separate category.

Carol & Dean...thanks for the response. This is one more reason why it would be nice for Disney to assign some sort of "preferred view" to all the resorts to assist DVC owners in getting those views. I suppose the other resorts don't have such a disparity in quality of view? Or there's no consensus on what the "best views" are? Anyway, thanks for the info. :)

All they really have to do is develop some type of unit assignment order and actually use it. It's a little work but not that much. Something like Owners at that resort, other DVC members, CRO renters, exchangers would work just fine. I don't think trying to have separate booking categories for each will be enough but it might help in some areas.

I just booked a week in March that falls over the weekend, and I wanted to pay cash over that weekend instead of eating up my points.

So my ressie is Wednesday & Thursday SV points; Friday & Saturday PV Cash, Sunday thru Wednesday SV Points.

I really don't want to have to change rooms. When we check in, if a SV is available for the entire length of the stay, will they keep us in the same room? I understand that SV & PV have the same cash rates, so the cost is not the issue, I just don't want to have to move my family.

I know I have reserved a SV on cash before, and kind of sad I can't do it now.

We've run into this policy for the upcoming trip. We could give our DAunt's family 2 weekday nights in a 2 bedroom SV, and they wanted a longer trip. Most of the family is coming from New Jersey, but one part is "local.". DCuz booked the Friday and Saturday with the Florida discount. They will have to move.

DH and I are staying off site for Friday and Saturday, we really are running out of points!!!! I've kept my DMom on site, so there will be a room to store things in.

Bobbi :)
