Is it just me...

While on the DIS, I have repeatedly seen posters say that BWV only has one set of elevators, near the lobby. I've never heard any mention of their being any additional elevators on the Villas Side.

I tend to be a very nosy person, and peak through cracks in doors, half open doors, etc. While at BWV in April, I saw a beautiful bank of elevators half way down the hall in BWV that was being used by housekeeping. These were not your typical service elevators by any stretch of the imagination. They definitely looked like they were designed for guest use.

I've found it odd that I have never seen these elevators mentioned here on the DIS. I'm not sure, but there may have actually been more than one elevator. Its from memory, but I think there was also nice flooring and wallpaper in that area. Like I said, it was like it was guest elevators.

I'm wondering 1) Did you not know about the extra set of elevators? 2) Knew about the extra set of elevators but knew that housekeeping needed there on?, 3) did not have a clue that these elevators existed?

I hope this subject isn't taboo. I've just never seen any mention of this.

It sounds like you are describing the main bank of elevators..the only one I am aware of at BWV.

Which end of the resort did you see these elevators?

Maybe you're thinking of the elevators near the entrance from the Luna Park pool on the first floor? If so, that's the same set of elevators. Keep in mind the lobby is on the second floor at BWV.

We've never stayed in BW View rooms or anywhere down that wing at BWV, so I'm not familiar with that end of the resort.

I have this feeling that the elevators you saw are indeed the only elevators on the BWV side of the resort. But hey, I've been wrong before! :confused3

The elevators we are all talking about are on the Villas side. The Inn side has a bank as well, but because you can only go from the Villas to the Inn through the lobby (and not through the first, third, fourth or fifth floors) the Inn elevators do the Villas no good. The bank has three elevators.

No, I know about the public elevators. I used them a lot on our last trip in January. Those elevators are just off the lobby, and like you said come out next to to the LUNA pool and is really convenient to the arcade and the fitness center.

These elevators were half way down the long, long, long hallway. They were behind a set of "should have been closed" double doors. They were very nice and had several maids waiting to use them with their carts. If it helps, we stayed on the 2nd floor on that trip and just went through the lobby each time.

This was like I said, the fanciest service elevators I've ever seen!

Yes, there are staff elevators for housekeeping and maintenance staff near the start of the BWV wing that runs between the two pools. They're in a room off the hallway on each floor. Housekeeping often leaves the door open, although they're probably not supposed to.

But they're not for guest use. We asked. We were told "no."

We were moving from a standard view, near those elevators, to a preferred view on another floor, again near those elevators. Because we had food and a lot of other loose items, we thought it would be easier just to make a few trips rather than packing everything up so that a bellman could move us.

We had to use the main BWV elevators, clear down the hall near the lobby.

If a resort has elevators for Guest use, you can bet that they also have them for Cast Members Only use. The service areas aka backstage should not be visible to the Guests. We have noticed propped open doors at the BC also. I think that the BS areas can get pretty warm and the CMs prop the doors open to improve air flow.

Thanks Y'all.

I've waited almost a year after making my little discovery. For some reason, I kept waiting to see somebody else to mention this.

My thinking is that these elevators really looked that they were intended for guest originally, and well so many people complain about too few elevators. I wondered why Disney would have changed their minds, if their are other housekeeping elevators, etc. I also wondered if the carts could be kept on each floor, etc. I don't recall now, but it seems like this was a double set of elevators. Could guest be given one of the sets of elevators?

After discovering these elevators, I would always get a little irritated that everyone would matter of factly state that there is only 1 bank of elevators on the villas side at BWV. PPs even assumed that I had mis-spoken.

Anyway, its out there now. There are more elevators at Boardwalk. We just can't use them. I would love to see some debate on this topic, but would be happy if we could acknowledge that there are more elevators at BWV!

I doubt that they were ever intended for guest use. There are, according to hotel/architectural standards, more than enough elevators for guest use in the bank of three for the size of the villas, they'd need service elevators for housekeeping and bell services. Do you want to get into an elevator with a broken refrigerator? Or have it sitting there in the elevator lobby while maintenance waits for an empty elevator to take it down in.

What would housekeeping do with piles of laundry that smelled like a sick kid vomited in bed if they didn't have their own elevators to move such stuff around? Guests getting into that elevator would almost certainly complain about the smell - and that happens every day at Disney - that some of the laundry is urine or vomit soaked and not really suitable to being in an enclosed space with guests. Thats just a reality for a hotel that every night has hundreds of children staying at it.

Guest elevators normally face a hallway or elevator lobby. Staff elevators normally face non-guest areas behind closed doors (or doors that are supposed to be closed).

And that's exactly how the elevators at BWV are.

I really doubt that the BWV staff elevators were originally intended for guest use, or that Disney subsequently "changed their minds."

My bet is that there is probably another set of staff elevators down the wing that has the GV's in it too. But it still comes down to only one set for guest use and that's all that really matters. I do think Disney realized they made a mistake by not putting a single elevator down by the exit to the sidewalk that you take to get to the parking lot or the bus becuase they put that kind of single elevator in the BCV down toward the end of one of its hallways in that type of location.
