BWV and linking ressies question...

Need some input on our ressies for August.

We had originally planned to go 2 days to BCV (on cash), then move to BWV for 8 days in a 2br (with some family guests), THEN spend 3 or 4 more days at some other resort (DH wanted BCV again, I wanted SSR, if possible). Well, now DH decided gee, let's not move (after our 8 days in a 2br at BWV)... let's just spend an additional 4 days THERE in a 1BR after our company leaves. (It saves on some pts, too, so gotta love that!)

Fortunately, behind this confused man stands a plan-ahead woman, and I did in fact book a 1 br std view for 4 days after our 8-day stay. Since I made the ressies at our 11 mos BWV-owner window, I didn't want to lose our std view 2 br while trying to get the 4 days of 1br in BCV. So I made the ressies separately, no link (other than my name on both of them!)

SO..... do I need to now call MS and have them link the ressies or any such thing? Or will they be able, at check-in, to accommodate that we want the 2 br for 8 days, then close off the studio part and leave our fam in the 1br segment for the following days? (No room change, no movin' fridge stuff, etc.)

I would call member services and discuss it with them. One thing you have to find out is if they booked your 1 bedroom as dedicated or lockoff. Boardwalk has many dedicated 1 bedrooms. The 4 times we have stayed at BWV we have had a dedicated 1 bedroom each time. All 2 bedrooms are lockoffs at BWV, so you need the 1 bedroom to be a lockoff in order to just close off the studio.

Interesting. I just checked my ressie letters... not a one of 'em says dedicated or lock-off on them. Just the room type (1 or 2 br, standard view) and the duration and any requests.

Is that normal for BWV? My letters from OKW and VWL always stated if it was dedicated or lock-off.

What you are asking is very difficult to do. While your ressies should be linked, you will very likely have to check out, and then check back in. Even if you receive the same unit--as we did--they are likely to ask you to check out just in case. If you were staying in the same sized unit there wouldn't be a problem, but you are changing sizes, that's where the problem is. Most of BWV's units are lock-offs. It also depends upon how many 2 bedroom units and studios they need for the nights you are staying, which complicates things to a large degree. You might want to reserve 2 studios instead, in order to assure that you won't be moving.

The dedicated 1 bedroom units are really nice. Since there is no inside door connecting to a studio, it's quieter. No worries about getting neighbors that might be on the noisy side. Also, I think most of the dedicated units are larger than the connecting units - and if you luck out and get a corner unit, you get extra windows, too.

FWIW, I'd being willing to move (in spite of the inconvenience) to get a dedicated 1 bedroom for the last 4 days of my vacation, especially if it were just me and my DH. It's JMHO, so of course, you'll do what you think best for your family. If you want to stay put, DebbieB gave you good advice. I'm not sure if dedicated is guaranteed/separate category, though, so maybe you wouldn't know that ahead of time.

P.S. I can relate to the "behind this confused man stands a plan-ahead woman" comment, LOL! They really have no idea how much nicer their vacations are because of us, do they? Sometimes I fantasize about letting my DH plan (he won't) and take a trip without me. The trip report on that would be no doubt be titled "A WDW Nightmare" or "I'll never make fun of her planning obsession again!" :teeth: :teeth:

Enjoy your trip!

My confirmations from BWV never say it either. But one time when I was making a 1 bedroom reservation I wanted to put dedicated in my requests and the cm said it wasn't necessary, it was already booked as dedicated. They said they book the dedicated 1 bedrooms & studios first, then split lockoffs that are not booked as 2 bedrooms. I always book at 11 months, which would explain why every time I got a dedicated.

Just had this discussion with MS last week. We're lucky enough to have friends going and will stay together in an OKW 2 BR for 4 nights. We're thinking of staying on in the 1 BR after they leave. MS said the ressies can't be linked (in the true sense of the word) because they're for 2 different types of units. However, she contacted OKW directly and was told that it should be noted on each of the 2 ressies and we would not be asked to switch rooms. Can't remember if we have to check out/check in or not, but that's not a big deal.

Not sure if OKW even has dedicated 1 BR's, so perhaps this is a different scenario.

Now, I've been around long enough to know that things aren't always as simple as they sound and not to believe everything I'm told, but this was the answer I was given. If we do this, I expect to confirm that there's 'notations' on each reservation before we leave on vacation and double-confirm it at check in and the day before our friends leave, to try to help this work out.

Thanks, folks. You know, worst case scenario, wedo have to move, it's not like we even have to leave the resort -- just a quick teaberry shuffle from one room to another. ANd like someone said -- hey -- maybe it will be that elusive, larger, corner dedicated one! As for checking out/back in, no big whoop -- I can stand a trip to the front desk, and we'll be seeing our guests on their way that morning anyway...

Thanks again!

We just did a similar thing at BCV. At checkin, I asked about the possibility of not having to move and the cm was very helpful and checked for a 1br opening the day we needed to open into a 2br. Everything worked. On the day my parents were coming in I went down to the front desk and checked out (officially) from our studio and then checked in to our 2 br. We were issued new keys but our old keys still worked for our studio. We did not move out of the studio. We had our parents bring their luggage in our studio as we went swimming and waited for the 1br portion to open. The maid asked us why we weren't moving out and we told her what was happening. We told her all we would need for our studio was new towels and glasses. Around 4 the maid was done cleaning the 1br and we open the connection door and walked in.

You can request not to change units assuming they are the same room type. It sounds like you have standard view for the entire time, part in a 2 BR and the rest in a 1 BR. MS cannot link the reservation in this case unless you were to get a 2 BR for the entire time. There is no way to guarantee you won't have to move but with a request through MS and a reminder at check in, you will improve your chances. I'm pretty sure you'll have to "check in again" for the 1 BR.
