OK, I can't really do the trip report thing, so I'll just stick to bullet points as things occur to me.

* I don't want to beat this one into the ground, but here it goes. BWV was nice, but all you owners can sleep soundly that we won't be back terribly soon. The room was ready when we checked-in around noon, and it was in very good condition (although dish soap and extra trash bags were missing--housekeeping delivered promptly after we called). It was also nice being able to walk to the bakery for breakfast a couple of times. But staying there with two toddlers makes it just too hard to get around. Pushing that stroller 20min in both directions to Epcot or MGM (with 60 pounds of kiddie on board) gets old quickly. The boats were a nice alternative, but just take too long when you're desperately trying to get back to the room before the kids fall asleep. There were at least two occasions where we walked from MGM to our room and didn't pass a single boat.

We were in room 3002, the last one down one of those looooong hallways. We did have a stairwell right next to our room, which would have been great except that it was closed at the ground level due to construction on the new croquet green. Near as we can figure, about the only room further from the parking lot and bus stop would have been 5002--only because it was two floors above us.

(Incidentally, as of Friday it appeared they had finished the croquet green. When we arrived, the sprinkler system was in and planting had begun. By mid-week they were laying sod and had finished the planting and laid mulch around the area. Late Friday the construction barriers came down.)

In truth, everything about BWV was top-notch. Prompt, friendly staff. Good condition room. But as long as we're traveling with our young kids, we're going to stick to SSR and OKW. At risk of offending others, I just don't see how BWV and BCV can be considered so much more "convenient" for big families than a resort that allows you to walk 2 minutes to a bus stop and then ride the rest of the way in air conditioned comfort. :confused3 Different strokes.

* DVC AP Upgrade - Always a popular topic, so here's our experience. First, the setup: Myself and DW had APs purchased at the end of '03 in the waning days of the Disney Club, and then activated in May '04. DS (4) received his AP in December '04.

We went to the International Gateway to upgrade. I explained to the CM what we wanted to do and also quickly mentioned that I traded messages with DVC (which I did) and they confirmed that we should be able to upgrade and that it would probably end up being a virtually free upgrade. The goal was for DW and I to have PAPs that expire later in May '05 and DS would have a PAP that expires in Dec '05.

The CM seemed to understand everything that we wanted to do, asked a few more questions, checked our ID, and set off punching her computer. It was sort of a weird experience. The CM didn't have a "oh, sure, I've done these a hundred times" attitude, but she asked me a lot of questions just to clarify what we wanted to do. I also never saw her pick up the phone or ask another CM for help, so clearly she knew what she was doing.

In the end, we had 3 PAPs in our hands AND a cash refund for $14 and change. But wait, there's more! When I looked at the passes later in the day, DS' pass still had his Dec '05 expiration date, which was correct. However, DW and myself ALSO had a Dec '05 expiration date on our new passes. :earseek: Strangely enough, the December dates on our passes were different--DS' pass expires something like 12/10 while mine says 12/16. Nevertheless, it appears we just got about 7 months free on our AP. Unfortunately we probably won't take advantage, so it's something of a no-harm situation. We're out of points and hadn't planned to return until the spring of '06. Interesting story nonetheless.

OK, now for the fun stuff:

* Crowds were just fine for the Celebration kick-off. No excessive waits, IMO. For example, on 5/5 (the day Epcot was closing early for the big press event) we did Turtle Talk with no wait (first in queue for next show) and our FastPass return time for Soarin was only about 45 minutes from receipt.

* There were a lot of tents set-up in all of the theme parks (even saw them at Typhoon Lagoon) apparently for media interview sessions and radio program remotes. I know it's a necessary evil, but it really kinda bothered me having to look at those tents and even large stages and lighting assemblies all week long. My mother did get a pic of Paige Davis doing a radio interview at some point. I wonder what other celebrities might have been spotted--I usually don't recognize "famous" people without an introduction.

* Soarin' was fantastic. Get row #1 if you can. On our first ride we got the top row, middle gate, and it really took my breath away. Whether I looked up, down, left or right, all I saw was the video screen. Second ride was from the middle row and seeing the feet dangling from those above took just a little bit off of the experience.

* We also did Lights, Motors, Action!, Turtle Talk and Crushin Gusher for the first time. All are excellent Disney attractions. I had read a review of LMA written during the testing period that described the show as being a little choppy and disorganized. We saw it on 5/6 and apparently they've worked out the glitches. It was really fun. We did all 3 of the Crushin Gusher slides (with about 2 min wait time for each) and they were a blast. DW giggled all the way down each run.

* Due to a couple of Fantasmic rainouts we didn't get to Illuminations this time. Bummer...that's one of my faves.

* Had our first meal at Chef Mickey's. That was fun. It was nice to get all of those character photos at one time. I think the only other meet-n-greets we did were the princesses in Toontown and Lilo & Stitch at AK. Oh, and we did Sorcerer Mickey at MGM which, as usual, had NOBODY in line.

Back to Chef Mickey's--DW is still a little upset about the extra attention I got from Minnie. She came by our table three times in an hour--once while DW was gone. I think I was a little red-faced in the photo that my Mother snapped.

But, I have a feeling DW made up for it with a few excessive close-ups of Tarzan in our video of Tarzan Rocks. ;)

* We used DDE without a problem. Called about 2 weeks before the trip to sign-up and received the letter about a week later. We used it about 6-7 times, and all places recognized the letter with zero confusion. At worst, we broke-even on DDE and will save a few bucks during our next trip.

* We did the EMH nights at MGM and the Magic Kingdom. Both were a success. Admittedly we did avoid ToT and RnR at MGM, but the other rides were walk-ons. At MK we did Haunted Mansion, Toontown (character greet + toured both houses), Barnstormer, ISAW, Pooh, BTMR (x2), SpMtn, POTC, and Buzz between 7pm and 10:30pm when the park closed at 9. I thought that was pretty darn good. And that was during the EMH on 5/4 when MGM closed at 4pm and AK at 5pm.

* If you've never ridden BTMR while the fireworks are going on, DO IT. It's really fun. The CMs were encouraging people to just stay in the car and continue to ride. We rode twice ourselves.

* Thankfully, other guests seemed to be pretty well-behaved during our trip. I really hate those parade-time confrontations and other nonsense that often seems to rear its ugly head. The worst we saw was a guy running (and pushing a stroller) for the boat at MGM who completely ignored a security guard's instructions while shouting "you'll be OK with it" (as if to say "find something else to do and don't worry about me.")

The person who appeared to he his wife looked dumbstruck. Wonder if he got an earful (or if it would have mattered.) Funny thing was the boat hadn't even docked yet!!! It's not like the guy needed to be running. He probably sat on the boat for 10 minutes before they left the dock. :rotfl2:

That's all I can think of for now. Got any questions? Feel free to ask!

Enjoyed your report. I believe we may have been in the same room back in Feb. When we were there the construction door was propped open, so we lucked out and used that stairway all week. I believe it may have been locked once, and I agree - it's a long walk just to get off Boardwalk property the "standard" way.

I'd be willing to bet you'll find a way to use those extra months on your PAP!

Glad you had a good time. :)

Bullets or not, I enjoyed reading your report. I agree that you need to be close to the elevators to really enjoy Boardwalk if you are traveling with strollers. We don't mind the walk at all - actually we prefer it, but we don't travel with strollers anymore or go when it's HOT, either.

Can't wait to see the new croquet lawn - what did you think of it? Is it going to be nice? The pictures HBC posted lead me to believe it's going to be very nice.

Thanks for posting the report - kind of wondered where you've been lastely (missed you on the boards), but I should have known, LOL!

Best wishes -

Great report! Thanks for taking the time to write it up for us. :)

Personally, I like the BCV for our stroller aged baby rather than OKW. (Haven't stayed at BWV yet) I like not having to take everything out of the stroller, fold it up, find a place on the bus for it, squirming baby on my lap....etc. It just seems more convenient for us to walk rather than deal with the hassle. I actually like the walk to and from Epcot, it's a way to calm down the excitement a little before bedtime. When we stay at BCV, we only take the bus to MK since we rent a car.

I agree about Soarin'. We rode it last week and we were on the bottom row. We didn't like it much at all. I heard such great things about it here. Seeing all the feet when you look straight ahead and if you looked down, we saw the screen edge and floor, took away from some of the effects. Next time, we'll wait for a higher one.

Thanks for the trip report. It was fun reading. We are going to BCV in August, I wanted to stay at Boardwalk but my youngest DS (2) does not like the scary clown pool. Maybe when he gets older.

Glad you had a good time.

Wow, for someone who "can't really do the trip report thing", you did a great job!!

Thanks for you comments and impressions of BWV.

Those last two words pretty much sum it up. So no flames here...just glad you enjoyed your trip.

Thanks for taking the time to write up all the comments. :)

Great Report and thanks for posting your experience upgrading your AP's. I have to do the same when we are there later this month.

Do you remember the CM's name that gave you the additional months? :rotfl: (Im kidding OK!)

Thanks for the kudos, everyone. It is nice to be posting again. Forgot to mention that I promised DW that the laptop would stay home for the first time in about 5 years. I work in IS/IT, so that was a monumental achievement. It's also why I was able to avoid staying up until 1am posting here for an entire week. :rotfl:

Carol: I didn't see HBC's photos, but here are a couple I took. These are from last Tuesday (5/3). In our rush to pack and vacate on Saturday I never got around to taking more. By the end of the week, the large circular area with the empty pots was home to a rather large tree (kids enjoyed seeing that planted). The area will completely mulched, sod laid, and the orange barriers were down. The grass was still in its greenish-brown stages, but I'm sure it will be lush and ready for use in a couple of weeks. Certainly an improvement over the big tent-like building. :)

During our stay there were also a number of trucks coming-and-going that we could clearly see were delivering the likes of mattresses and TVs. I'm assuming that the first floor rooms in this area were part of the sales center conversion, yes?

Thanks for the photos - cant wait to see it in December. Bet it will be really pretty.

Best wishes -

Enjoyed your observations and commentary tjkraz. Nice job!

By the way, I too have noticed that Minnie does seem to have Roman hands and Russian fingers! (:>)

Thanks for the report, I stayed in that room once. Was the door actually locked at ground level? What if there was a fire, I believe that is actually a fire escape.

It probably wasn't locked. But there was a sign just inside that said something like "Construction entrance--no guest traffic permitted."

Before the end of the trip we did end up using that door a couple of times. DW noticed that the door was outside of the orange construction barrier, so a couple evenings we did go back to our room via that door.

By Saturday when the construction was apparently over (the orange barrier and other evidence of work had come down outside the resort), the "construction" sign on the inside was left behind. :confused3

Honestly, it probably didn't take any more time to return via the entrance by Luna Park, take the elevator up and walk the corridor. That route was often easier than folding the stroller and trying to drag (literally!) everyone up the stairway. ;)

Thanks for the TR & pics Tjkraz. Glad u had a nice time. We also love to ride BTMR during the fireworks :wizard:

Great report! Thanks for posting.

DH and I really enjoy the Epcot-area resorts because we don't mind the walk and I dispise the buses (I've been known to take a cab from BC to MK to avoid the taking the bus. ). But I can definitely understand your frustrations - sleeping kids are a priority!

This happened to me and we couldn't explain it either. My ex and I had gone to TL and his pass got wet so on the way out, we had the CM replace it. When he got it back, the exp date changed from Dec to the following July! We didn't notice it til we got back home but we were totally shocked. Like you though, we didn't get to use the extra dates anyway because we moved from FL and basically had to shelf our passes.

Thanks again for your review. :teeth:

Thanks for the report!!!

We love OKW and stayed at BWV for our 1st time a few weeks ago. I agree that the room was excellent and everything was top notch! But I can see that if travelling with toddlers....maybe it would be a bit much. My kids have finally passed the stroller age at Disney and the "carry me" stage so we had no problems with the walks :cool1:. Give it a few years when they are a bit older and the location might be more enjoyable for your family :).

Question on upgrading....our APs expire in November, we're looking to do a quick trip over Labor Day weekend, it seems that we should be able to upgrade right? My family wants to hit Typhoon Lagoon while we're there so *if* we can upgrade cheaply this makes sense.

Yup. That's pretty much what we intended on doing. When we went to upgrade, DW and I had passes that were about 3 weeks away from exipiration. Make sure you have your driver's license and DVC member IDs with you.

Just be warned that some members have reported problems trying to get the upgrade. There have also been inconsistencies in receiving a cash refund (the DVC PAPs actually cost LESS than the non-DVC AP, technically leaving a credit after the transaction is completed.) I took the approach that the International Gateway was probably a good location to try the upgrade since many DVC members use that entrance from BCV and BWV. The CM took care of the upgrade with little hassle and even gave us the cash refund (which I certainly wouldn't have fought for if not offered.)

If you have trouble with a CM, I'd just politely let them know that DVC said you should be able to upgrade, and suggest that they ask their manager for clarification. Or just try again at another location. ;)

Welcome back tjkraz! You were definately missed around here (and now of course, we are all jealous :teeth: )

I haven't stayed at BWV or BCV, but we did visit the boardwalk area last trip and hubby and I both think that we might wait to try them on an "adult" only trip first. Who knows when that will be though :earboy2:

Funny how the reports on the EMH are so different. For the most part, we seem to avoid those days (just by luck) and haven't hit any yet, but I am starting to think it might just be timing, but then, isn't most of it about timing?

Did you hit Beaches and Cream? Kitchen sink? :)

Also, bravo on leaving behind the laptop. We always take ours because it doubles as entertainment in the car (dvd player), but I have sworn to leave it in the car (or at least in the bag) :p Good for your DW :teeth:

DW and I did a short 3-night stay a year ago without the kids at BWV. I left with very positive vibes after that. But with the kids it just seemed a bit too overwhelming.

I hope I didn't come across too harsh in my post. I'm sure there are many families who get by just fine at BWV / BCV. But for our particular tastes and touring style, we just prefer to drive or take the bus. The layout of the Boardwalk (IMO) isn't as condusive for bus or car travel as OKW or SSR where many units are literally seconds away from your car or a bus stop.

Did you hit Beaches and Cream? Kitchen sink?

Of all the meals I had planned, that's the one we missed. :( I had hoped to hit it on our last full night, but we gave prececence to the 6pm Lights, Motors, Action at MGM. There was just no way we could have a nice meal a B&C and still make it to MGM in time for LMA.

But it will be tops on my list for the next trip.
