BWV 1BR -- No USB charging ports on the nightstands

We recently returned from a great stay at BWV. We were in room 5001, a dedicated 1BR right next to Jellyrolls. The view of Spaceship Earth and Illuminations was fantastic and worth the long trek from the lobby.

The downside to this room is that the nightstands did not have any charging ports or 110-volt outlets. In fact, I had to use the extension cords and multi-tap outlets I keep in our Owners Locker to provide power to the other side of the bed which still has no reachable power outlet even after the refurbishment.

I had seen photos of the refurbished 1BRs and studios that show USB charging ports and 110-volt outlets added to the nightstands so I almost didn't pack a USB charger. At the last minute, DH and I each put one in our carry-on bags in case we needed to use one at the airport. Good thing we did!

Has anyone who has stayed at BWV since the refurbishment had a room (studio, 1BR, GV) that had USB charging ports and/or 110-volt outlets on the nightstand?

Were in a standard view 1br now and each night stand has 2 usb ports. I don't know the voltage.

We just got back a couple of weeks ago and we had usb charging ports on both sides of the bed, too. We were also in a 1 bedroom standard view villa. Odd that some of the villas didn't have them.

LisaS - Will you let Member Satisfaction know? IMO, this was an oversight or perhaps bad quality control by rehab team.

I wonder if it would have helped to call maintenance to see if they happened to have a couple of the new nightstands. 2049 also has them. Sorry this happened, Lisa. At least you had the room with the best view in all of BWV, maybe all of WDW (except the suite in the castle)!

We were just there in P/G view studio and the nightstand had outlets my DDs used for their phones. I think it had USB port.

I will contact Member Satisfaction but I was curious if this is a widespread issue or if only a few rooms are affected.

That room also has a problem with lack of hot water in the kitchen, but thankfully not a problem in the bathroom sinks, tub and shower. I called maintenance for that and they investigated and checked other rooms but in the end they weren't able to do anything. They explained that the hot water comes all the way from the convention center area so room 5001 is about as far as you can get from the source. There are multiple hot water supply "runs", with the bathrooms on a different run from the kitchen. If enough guests along the supply route are using hot water on that particular run, even the furthest rooms will have hot water within a minute or so of turning on the tap. If not, it could take 20 minutes to get hot water. So the only time we ever had hot water in the kitchen sink was in the late evening one night. At all other times it was at best lukewarm in the kitchen sink and the dishwasher. (I have a pool thermometer in my Owners Locker that we bought during "pool gate" and it registered about 88 degrees.) Not ideal for washing dishes so when washing things by hand, I heated water on the stove and poured it into the sink so I could wash things in hot water.

At least you had the room with the best view in all of BWV, maybe all of WDW (except the suite in the castle)!
I agree! Every time we walked into the room, we were amazed by how large Spaceship Earth looked when viewed from the kitchen area. From the balcony we could see all the way down the Boardwalk and of course the fireworks view was as good as it gets from a boardwalk view room. We couldn't see the MK fireworks over YC because the roof over The Attic and Jellyrolls blocks the view on that side. The room was also quiet because it's a dedicated 1BR with neighbors on only one side, no foot traffic above and nobody running past the room in the hallway because it's the last room. We would gladly stay in this room on every trip, even without charging ports and hot water in the kitchen.

We were in room 4123 in September is a dedicated one bed corner room and both nightstands had the USB charging points, it seems odd yours didn't as I would have thought all the furniture was bought as a job lot.

Thanks for the response.

I don't think the nightstands are new. They appear to be the ones that have been there since our first stay at BWV over 10 years ago, but with new tops and, for the ones with the chargers, a piece added on at the back. Our nightstands did have the new tops on them so it looks like someone forgot to add the new piece at the back, or they didn't make enough of them so some rooms didn't get them?

Wow Lisa - thanks for posting that! I was in 5004 (P/G 1BR) and then across the hall in 5003 (lock-off 1BR right next to 5001) in late Feb and there were no USB ports on either of those nightstands either. Our group also had a BW view studio - 5007 perhaps? I don't have a great picture but it also doesn't seem to have the USB ports. Our HA 2BR pool/garden view lockoff in April did have them. In February I was just fairly confused - first stay since the refurb and I wasn't thinking at the time about how it was supposed to have those.

I think they have something wrong with the room you had including the excuse they offered for lack of hot water. We were in 4003 and 4005, the two bedroom lock-off, boardwalk view, right before those end 1BRs next to Jellyrolls, in October last year. They had been renovated and and they had plugs and USB ports and hot water in the kitchen and elsewhere.

It sounds like they skipped a bunch of rooms in that section of the 5th floor when they added the charging ports during the refurb. I will mention those room numbers in my email to Member Satisfaction.

I was curious whether there are USB chargers visible in the BWV room photos on Disney's website. There are room photos on this page: https://disneyworld.disney.go.com/resorts/boardwalk-villas/rates-rooms/ Click on the photo of the "1 Bedroom Villa - Standard View". In the window that pops up, click on "Rooms", then "One Bedroom Villa". There are several photos of the king bed and nightstands and there are no USB chargers on the nightstands in any of the photos. The photos do show a clock radio in the room. Ours had been removed.

I agree. Either something is broken or they've tweaked whatever system is in place to ensure guests don't wait too long for hot water to come out of the kitchen tap and now it's not functioning well. Fortunately the hot water in the bathroom sinks, tub and shower worked very well most of the time though there was one day when I had to set the shower to it's maximum setting to get the water hot enough.

That Disney photo has nightstands just like we had in our two 5th floor 1BR's that I listed - or at least it's just like one of them was. I don't have a picture showing the other side well enough to confirm but I'm fairly certain they were identical.

Here's the new stand that we had in our 3rd Floor HA 1BR pool garden view:

I thought I had pictures I had taken in the model but couldn't find one showing the nightstands although I really thought I took one of the top - because I liked that it was the hard surface. So, it looks like they bought two different types of nightstands.

Now take a look at the studios. This is the photo of the refurb from DVCNews (not certain if it's the model or a different room). Taken when they still had the clocks.

And this was the 5th floor studio. A little hard to see, but there's no back nor USB:

we were just a couple of doors down in September, and one or the other of us said "OMG it's spaceship earth!" every time we walked into the room. even knowing what our view was, actually seeing it and how big it looked caught us off guard every time we came in!

we were either in 5005 and didn't have the USB ports. i remember it being a pain to have to plug our phones in over by the tv.

We were in a GV last December (3047), and one bedroom had the updated nightstand with the charger ports, the other didn't.
