I can't seem to find many reviews of the Best Western Park Place Inn??

Our vacation plans are a big mess for the next two years, but we may be able to squeeze in a short DLR trip Jan 23-26, and got a good rate at this hotel, which seems very close to the parks plus has a breakfast.

Anyone stayed there?

Aside from Disney's Grand Californian Hotel the Park Place Inn and neighbor Park Vue are the closest places to the Park gates. This is a motel with exterior corridors and some large mini suites along with regular rooms. They are decorate in a slight tropical manner and have fridges and microwaves. We thought our room was good and comfortable The free breakfast was certainly okay but nothing spectacular. I don't remember if there is cereal but there were muffins and bagels and a pastry or two. I will be staying there a gain next month. It is super convenient.

I stayed here in October for 5 days in a mini-suite. The mini-suite is just the 2 beds and a sofa sleeper all in the same room...so don't get any hopes up that there will be a separate sleeping area. I would stay again for the right rate as I really love the short walk and because I don't spend a lot of time in the room anyway. If you don't mind me asking, what was your rate? I'm going for 1 nite (22nd) and was quoted $98 as the best rate (AAA and entertainment rate was the same). I booked at HOJO for $59 entertainment rate. Now with a 60% chance of rain, I'm thinking of forking over the xtra $ to stay the Grand on the AP rate.

Oh, and as for the continential breakfast, it's in the adjoining Captain Kidd's place and was marginal at the very best - don't make your decision because of the breakfast..it was never stocked well and the choices weren't that great. I liked the breakfast provided by Desert Inn and Suites. Again, the selling point for me is the distance - it's a normal room, nothing spectacular with an ok pool (didn't use). Staff were very nice and the room cleaned and stocked appropriately each day.

Stayed three times in their mini-suites. Rooms were clean. Hotel was quiet. Pool was small but workable. Walk was very short. We used the microwave and fridge. Both small but worked. Staff was helpful and nice. It is kind of our default hotel now. Nothing fancy but it worked fine for us.

The free breakfast definitely should not a deciding factor, (Sara*s_Mommie is right about that!) We stayed at the BWPPI once, and the breakfast was very very stale. :( I'm sure you're safe with cold cereal, but toast was bad, so were the pastries (ick!) I didn't trust the picked eggs. The breakfast area is located right upstairs of the very poorly reviewed Captain Kidd's. :sad2: we ended up eating at McD's for breakfast most of the time.

The rooms were dark (as in, not enough light at all) and not very cozy.... not nearly as nice as Hojo's rooms.

(The beds were only double, not queen like Hojo's, and not NEARLY as comfortable as the Hojo's pillow-top :littleangel:heavenly bed.)

BWPPI also did not have an in-room safe (safety deposit boxes, small, are available at front desk but not guaranteed. If you lose the key you have to pay them for it!) That is a big deal for me, being able to feel good about the in-room safe. (Free at Hojo's.)

I felt more safe at Hojo's, (hotel, not motel) and the walk is around 4-5 minutes longer to and from the parks I would say, which is easily do-able.

The swimming pool and splash play area at Hojo's are far above and beyond what you'd get at Best Western PPI.

It was clean enough at the BWPPI, no real problem there. Our key for the door didn't work so they came in when we were there and tinkered with it for an hour or so while we wanted to go and eat supper. We also had trouble with the phone, and had to get them to come in to repair that.

Our Stay at the BWPPI was back in 2005. We have only ever stayed at the Hojo's since. and plan on doing so in the future. 20-some years ago we stayed at the Anaheim Resort Plaza, and it was fine, but I prefer the comforts of Hojo.

Somehow, it just feels like home.

I think generally people find the BWPPI 'o.k.' to stay with but you will likely find their rates quite inflated due to the fact that they are a close (2-3 min. walk) to the main gate. With Hojo's coming in at a 7-8 min. walk and with us being able to grab a snack at McD's on the way back, we love it. True, you can grab a snack from McD's and head back to BWPPI but it isn't on the walk home (as in, back to the hotel.) ;)

Read all that you can about the hotel, and do searches on the boards. I don't think you'll go wrong with whatever decision you make.

(The beds were only double, not queen like Hojo's, and not NEARLY as comfortable as the Hojo's pillow-top :littleangel:heavenly bed.)

They do have rooms with 2 Queen beds and a Queen sized sofa sleeper. They are the mini suites. The rooms with just double beds are not mini suites and only have double beds.

OP, do not book any room in Anaheim based on the breakfast they serve unless it is a hot breakfast at a hotel like Residence Inn or Embassy Suites. IMO, all the so called continental breakfasts are junk. You'd be better off eating breakfast at McD's -- at least you could get some protein in it. Avoid Capt Kidds it's very poorly rated. In real estate, it's all about location, location, location. It's hard to beat their location. OTOH, I agree with jory29 about being able to stop in at a place for a meal on your way back to the hotel. That's what we liked about FFI and Hojos. The restaurants we like to eat at are in or around that location.

We stayed there for 1 night at the end of our Anaheim trip in November. Our first 6 nights were at HOJO in the Kids' Suite. Two months before our trip we decided to add on an extra night but the Kids' Suite wasn't available so we went with BWPPI. It was about $20 more per night than our HOJO room, smaller (we were in a mini suite at BWPPI), and what really stands out to me was the noise level. People coming and going at all hours, doors slamming, etc. I guess that's to be expected, but it was so different from our HOJO experience. We never heard a single guest in our 6 nights there -- unless we were riding in the elevator and visiting with someone. ;) Another thing that stands out to me was going out to our car to leave and having the hood totally covered in cigarette ashes. Yuck. Not sure what the smoking area policy is there, but that's not going to happen at HOJO -- at least where we parked, and if people are following the smoking area policy. I would stay there again, but only if it was cheaper than HOJO. Having stayed at both the same week, HOJO beat out BWPPI hands down.

I'm so glad to read the good reviews. We'll be staying there for 6 days next month and have been hoping that it would be a nice stay. The last time we went we stayed at HoJos which I really liked but with a tired child at the end of the day I'm hoping it will be better to just be able to walk out the gates and back to our hotel.
