The rooms at BWI used to be gross with the nasty carpet and the oversized furnitures.
We were just at AKL and we could hear what the neighbor kids were saying via the connecting door. I was really surprised that it wasn't coming from the hall. We were very tired, so it didn't matter much, but yes, this does appear to be a casualty of rooms without carpet.I actually think the new room design is a GIGANTIC improvement over what they used to look like.
AKL has "wood" floors and we didn't notice anything. But like others said, we live in a big city neighborhood in a louder building, so we may just not notice it.
I stopped staying at Pop Century because of the noise. Once they removed the carpet it became so overwhelmingly noisy I just couldn't stay there anymore - on top of the food court being a zoo most of the time, having a noisy room just tipped me over the edge.We were just at AKL and we could hear what the neighbor kids were saying via the connecting door. I had someone on the other side of my connecting door at CSR Tower smoke a couple years ago and Disney took immediate action. Maybe because it wasn’t a patio? That would be rather upsetting to have smoking neighbors ruining the patio and Disney ignoring it when you can literally tell them what room it isHey, we stayed at the Poly, concierge, last year and our neighbors were clearly smoking pot on their balcony (at the very least). I would have been happier with a little noise...
We complained, but I don't think they did anything.
I mean, maybe they did something? They didn't kick them out, they were still there the next day (they had some distinctive door decor). Also, it's a pretty distinctive oder; not like you can hide it.I had someone on the other side of my connecting door at CSR Tower smoke a couple years ago and Disney took immediate action. Idk if mine were kicked out but they started reading them the riot act about smoking in rooms as I was rushing out of mine (Disney moved me to another room, my asthma was very grateful as I couldn’t spend the night there whether Disney moved me or not). In my case the perpetrators were obvious. Maybe with patio cases it’s more of a give them a warning and hope they maybe haven’t actually damaged any soft goods?I mean, maybe they did something? I don't know; it was just such a surreal experience. Who pays that much for a room and then smokes pot on the balcony? At Disney World?! I still can't really wrap my head around it.Idk if mine were kicked out but they started reading them the riot act about smoking in rooms as I was rushing out of mine (Disney moved me to another room, my asthma was very grateful as I couldn’t spend the night there whether Disney moved me or not). This is so true. I was at BWI 2 weeks ago and it was so noisy. I could hear the connecting room voices in normal tones. The hallway was extremely noisy, and I guess that is the luck of the draw regarding neighbors. Mine would stop with strollers in the hallway right outside my door and carry on conversations. I opened the door to see what was going on and it did not phase them. They kept standing there talking.I’m writing this partly for catharsis for my frustration, and partly to help others because there are lots of questions on the net about noise from outside at the BWI but little mention of noise from inside.
Location is great for the purposes of visiting Epcot and DHS but BWI will be at the bottom of the list next time when choosing an Epcot hotel. The hallway traffic noise is amplified by narrow hallways and low ceilings that allow sound nowhere to go but through the 1 inch gap under the door to the room. Neighbors talking, laughing, etc. are as if in the same room though this is exacerbated by a connecting door (but this is not the whole problem because you can hear neighbors talking in their rooms across the hall too).
When planning this part of our trip it was narrowed to a choice between BWI and Swan Reserve - oh well, hindsight is 20/20. Don’t know if Swan Reserve would be any better but it can’t be any worse.
I’ve stayed at many Disney hotels (Deluxe, Moderate and Value) and, for noise, BWI has been the worst at any price.
