Buzz's Brigade Come Flying into Aug-Dec Totals

Hey team!

My September numbers:
Miles - 101.88
Minutes - 861

Things have been kind of crazy for me lately and I've been slacking on my workouts. (My September miles are only that high because of doubling.) On the bright side, I'm racking up a lot of points with Southwest.

I took a short solo trip to WDW for EEC last weekend. I spent my one park day at AK and had a great time watching the Finding Nemo and Lion King shows and riding the safari twice. I also tried out the sushi bar at the Poly and the new Kouzzina restaurant. I didn't do as well as I would have liked at EEC but it was still a lot of fun. For some reason I just wasn't in the right mood for the scavenger hunt. I only got 3 of the 4 questions right, and 2 of those were because another runner shared the answers. I'm looking forward to trying again next year.

So this weekend I'm off to San Jose for the Rock 'n' Roll 1/2. I thought I'd be done with travel for awhile after that, but instead I'll be going out to Baltimore for six days. Some of you saw on another thread that I may be relocating out to Baltimore. This trip is so that I can familiarize myself with the area and get to know my coworkers in Baltimore. I just realized that I'll be there the same weekend as the Baltimore Running Festival and I'm thinking about doing the 5k but haven't committed yet. It would have been neat to do a longer race, because what better way to get to know the city than on foot? But the half marathon is sold out and I'm not ready to tackle a full yet.

Oh yeah, the weather is cooling down here in Phoenix. It was only 84 degrees yesterday when I left work. I actually thought it was a bit chilly! :lmao:

Lisa, I didn't know you were the defending ECC champ. That is awesome news. Good luck on your trip to Baltimore and remember to take a jacket.

Pat, just banging out the miles huh? When is the last time you went under 100 miles for a month?

Jeese Syko, first your ride need repairs now you don't feel well. I hope the best for you!

Casey, It doesn't get nearly as cold here as it does there. I was in Vegas in January and froze my butt off at night. Average is high 60, low 70. Winters are why we live here! I thought LV was to be your first marathon. Good luck in 2 weeks, you'll do great!

Chris, another trip to Disney. Heck you go more than me and I only live 3 hours away:) I need to go look at your pictures.

James, you still run more than most of us even in an off week. That's not even counting all the PT you have to do. I get tired just reading some of your posts.

Here are my numbers for September. I promise October will be better.

119 miles
1336 minutes (includes cross training minutes)

Good luck everyone in your October races. I don't have anything on tap but I do have a cruise scheduled, does that count? Had to make a choice, RFTT or a 4 night cruise. They were basically the same price and the cruise won.

enjoy,
Duane

Casey - You're flying?????? I thought you didn't participate in such activities...:rolleyes1 Good luck!!

Syko
- Glad you are getting all back together. :thumbsup2

Chris - From the pics on FB, it looks like you are having a fabulous time in the "WORLD". :)

Here are my totals for September:

Miles: 73.7

Hours: 20:33:03

September numbers
miles 10.5
time - 3:02

I've decided to not do any WDW race in January, so I'm really not running or walking or moving at all.

Aug: 123 miles, 1,711 total minutes
Sep: 79.8 miles, 1,103 total minutes

Not much activity since Disneyland. Waiting for upcoming trip to WDW (will get to run the last TOT 13K since I'll be there)!

Have a great week!

Hey Everybody,
Still here. Work really gets in the way of 'real life' stuff. Any way Sept miles or lack thereof:
Miles 32.5
Time 7:48

Syko - Were you at the RFtT this weekend? I think you are in Anne's group picture on FB. Are you on FB? If so, send me an IM, and maybe we can hook up, so you can get a copy of your picture!

Hi Allie Yes I was at RFTT, I am not on facebook or twitter, but would love a copy of the photo as my DH took some only to find out that our DD had changed the settings and none came out!!!!!

I'm hoping it gets colder....at the moment its on the line between wearing cold gear or not!!!!!

I hope your RFTT went well I looked for you at the end but did not see you.

My first trip report!!!!!! Sorry its so long!!!!!!!!!!

We left for Columbus Ohio early Friday morning and got there 22:30 hours later!!!!

We stayed at the Holiday Inn outside town and had a huge room with a Jacuzzi tub, nice hotel and pet friendly too.:thumbsup2

Package pick up was at the convention centre, where we where charge $7 to park. The “expo” was terrible; I guess I’m spoiled by Disney.

Tee shirts are none wicking (Chris has told me that they are, looking at the fabric I thought they wern't) and you could not change your size!!!!:sad2:
I would have to lose at least 60lbs to get mine on!!!!

Nothing else in the bag goodie wise except a coupon for a free crispy cream doughnut, made my DD happy.

Race Day:

We where given special parking and where told we had to be ready to leave the car park at 7am as we where getting a police escort.:cool1:

Well we where ready and the police did not turn up!!!! :scared1:

People who had done the race before just went on there own, but as I did not know where to go I was told to wait.
There was one other racer who was made to wait, and we waited and waited.

In the end the cycle escorts said that they would take use down the sidewalk, both of use where on lean steers, no sidewalks for us.
They then asked us if we had lights…..who has lights on a racing chair for a race!!!!
They finally asked us if we would risk going on the main road without lights with the traffic to get to the start, so off we went.:scared1:
For a little while the two escorts stayed one in front one behind us, but they soon decided to hang back and talk to each other why we went on ahead!!!!

To get to the start we had to go over the kerb, the guy I cranked up with was a below keen amputee and he got up and lifted his chair over and walked it to the start line.
I needed a lift and as my DH was not allowed to come with us I had no one to help, the escorts grabbed my chair and lifted me off the side walk and in to the start carrel, just as the national anthem was being played.

Off we went, I just got over the timer mats and stopped, my escort pushed me and I went a little way and then stopped again, asked what was wrong and I said I don’t know I was fine until they lifted me, he pushed me once more and when I stopped again he cycled off and left me in the road waiting for the runners to start!!!!!:scared1:

A lady for the crowed gave me her phone so I could cal DH to come a help, when another lady came running out to me and she was the wife of a cranker in the race!!!:flower3:

She took one look at my chair and saw that they had bent my bumper into my wheel so it was acting as a break, she was not strong enough to move it, so two men for the crowd came over to help her and they got me going.:woohoo:

Once I was on my way the crowed who had watched all of this where fantastic with there cheers and shouts of encouragement, but I did not have an escort, I left the start at 19mph and was on a mission to hunt down the other chairs, suddenly I was joined by a man on a cycle, I knew he was not an escort ad he was not wearing the right clothes.

It turns out that he was a pacer for the runners and was pacing the last half of the marathon; he saw what happened to me and grabbed a bike to catch me up and escort me through.:worship:

We where doing great, I was up to 21mph and had overtaken 2 chairs, a police car came up behind us and told us to move to the right, I got over to the right and my escort went left, the police car cut the corner and ran me off the road into the curb, I was shock up but we went on again, caught enough chair and cranked on.

My escort told me to turn right, so I did and off down the road we went, to be shouted at that we where going the wrong way!!!!!!
The official came and pulled me back as it was too tight for me to turn and told me off for going off course!!!! :headache:
My escort apologised he was thinking he was on the last part of the course, the part he paces for. I was not mad at him at all as he was only trying to help me, but I was mad at the official escorts.

Finally an official escorts came over and asked if he was ok to stay with me, J said he was, and I’m glad he said yes.

We carried on and there was a long stretch when the wind was ice cold and hit you like a wall, I couldn’t wait to turn the corner but it seemed to take for ever. On this stretch the first men from the ½ marathon over took me, I asked J what they ate for breakfast as I wanted some!!!:lmao:

We caught one more chair after the turn and as the runners had gone another way to us we where the only competitors on that stretch, we where cranking along when we saw a car heading towards us on the course, J put himself in front of me, so that if the car did hit it would hit him and started shouting, I thought that the car was going to hit him, it swerved just before off the road and J shouted at him as we went passed, he also shouted to the volunteer who was on traffic, the only problem was that we where going through a shopping high st. and they had one volunteer trying to stop cars for entering the course. This car had pulled out from a shops car park, not a road so there where no police there to direct traffic!!!!

On we went and I had a chair in sight……and he stayed that way for several miles, evenly I caught and over took him at mile 25.:woohoo:

J said that he had to be at mile 13 to take over from the running pacer at a certain time and that her would stay with me for as long as possible, he stayed with me till just past mile 25.:worship: He was a great guy and if he had not help me out I think I would have done the race on my own, people who know him shouted out to him on the course asking him what he was doing!!!!:confused3

The crowd support was fantastic so was the entertainment music everywhere.:grouphug:
People where surprised to see a “girl” coming through and got even more vocal as out of 25 chairs only 4 where women!!!!

I came through the finish line and was expecting to see my DH with Tinkerbell to do her test, but instead I was met by medical and I was taken into first aid, but they would not let my DH or Tinkerbell in to me.:sad2:
I kept telling them that I was fine expect being freezing and that if I could just warm up I could go around again!!!!
After an hour I had convinced them that all I needed was to get back to the hotel to have a warm bath and a hot drink.
The Dr. said that she was concerned about my feet and that if they did not warm up after my bath then I had to go to ER as I had minor frostbite.

By the time I got back to my DH Tinkerbell did the test and I had a seizer in the car.
If they had let her do het job I could have stayed in first aid and had it there!!!!

I have never been so cold in my life, my shot blocks where so hard they where all most impossible to eat and my electrolyte drink froze in my drinking tubes!!!!!!!:scared1: there was alos ice on parts of the roads!!!!

I managed to come second in the women’s division, and even if I had not had the big delay at the start I would have not have won, the winner was amazing,:worship: but I would have BQ, the only reason I went to this race. In the end I finished in 2:28:23 and my BQ is 2:25:59.
I was told that there would be no presentation at the finish and that I will be sent my award.

I also won a sprit award and I found out online that the winners where to attend a VIP event, the only thing was that no one told me about it!!!:confused3
So I missed it, apparently it was on Wednesday. If they had let me know about it I would have attended.

I am going to write to the organisers about my experience.:surfweb:
I do not know if I would ever do this race again, even tough it is a nice course.:confused3

I just want to have one race where nothing goes wrong…….anyone know how to un-jinx me!!!!

syko - I'm sorry to hear about your experience. It's very strange to hear just how different one race can be for two people.
I went up to the very beginning of the start corrals to look for you at about 7, but I didn't see anyone up in that area.

I'm happy to hear that you finished, but very sorry to hear of your experience!

(On the shirt thing the half shirts were Nike Fit dry so I think the Half shirts were the wicking material.)

Good job on the PR :thumbsup2 I'm glad you had a great race.
Thanks for comming up to the front to say hi, there was nobody there as at 7 we where all sat in the Spin Life car park waiting for the ploice escort!!!!

The tee shirts are wicking  not a fabric I would say was, but your right it is a fit dry, I'll never get to wear mine so I will never find out.:rotfl:
I think I will stay with UA.

I kept a look out for a WISH shirt, but I didn't see any, and after looking at your photos I know why!!

I was wearing a white top with purple writing on it, black tights and bumble bee yellow shoes.

I got a hat, the best thing about the marathon to me, only because a gentleman went and got one for me, but I did not get a medal.
As I was taken in to first aid for no reason I missed out on the food as well, they would not let me back in!!!!
I only got my medal as I told my DH and he found someone who would get it for me as I was not allowed back in.

Hey no problem. I thought you said it was your first Marathon so I just wanted to WISH you luck! :thumbsup2

I have no WISH Shirts, but have 2 on the way that I hope to get at TOT or when I get home. Plus I like to be really warm when I run so I overdress. :rolleyes1

I did see you then. That's so awesome.

Congrats again and I'm sorry Columbus was not the experience you deserved!

Make sure you let them know!

Chris

I've got my itinerary for the team at MCM.

We only get 1:30 of free time and have to be in bed by 8:30 :scared1:

We have to be there by 10am and start things at 10:30, i'm going to have to travel up and stay the night before :sad2: as I will not be able to travel all night and then have a day of avents to do!!!!

Having just spoken to the team manager I now don't want to go :sad1:

We are trying to work out if we can $$ if I say that I am not going to go with the team and go on my own.

I have had my corral changed for NYC, i'm now orange.....not a nice course at all.

But I do have some good news!!!!!

HED:worship: are fantastic.

They had been sent the wrong hub for my front wheel for the secound time, and as they knew that I had allready started my racing season they did not want to have to reject it again, so they had to make a few calls to so if they could change the wheel and they have.:yay:

Not only did they have to make me a one of a kind wheel, they did it in 2 days :worship: it normally takes 5.

They are shipping my wheels out today and I should get them on friday, just in time if I do go to MCM.

Wow Syko,
what a race report. You did great considering getting to the start minutes before the start, having your chair bent up by the "helpers" then getting lost. Amazing!

You will have a race where everything goes right. Just hang in there.
Duane
