I was already sold after the first trailer, but it looks great to me! I hope they don't pull it for Disney+ though. Pixar needs a big win!

Right. Buzz Lightyear, in the Toy Story movies, was based on a "real" person (real in the Toy Story verse). This movie is based on that real person that the Buzz toy is based on. I think it's going to be confusing for young kids but it looks like a good movie.

There was also the Buzz Lightyear of Star Command cartoon, in which Patrick Warburton played Buzz. That cartoon was the adventures of Buzz if he weren't a toy. It all gets very meta.

The way it was explained by Pete Docter was this Lightyear movie would be the big Summer blockbuster that Andy would see in the theater. I'm assuming the Star Command cartoon to be the show Andy would watch on TV, which like many kids shows is a way to sell it's line of toys.

Right, and all of it based on a real person who was an astronaut, though of course embellished in various ways for the media projects. "Buzz Lightyear" is an in-universe brand like "Woody's Round-Up" is.

Toy Story does so many fun shorts with multiple toy references, I wouldn't mind a 2-D Combat Carl short done to the tune of the 80's GI Joe show.
