Our story:
June 16th, 2001
This is it, our last morning. I was really starting to get upset, but luckily today was going to be a busy day. We had a flex feature from our package, so we decided to use it at Hollywood & Vine for a character breakfast. Our PS was at 8:30, so we were up by 7 and at the bus stop by 7:50. After a 5 minute wait, a Disney Cruise Line bus picked us up and we arrived in style at MGM around 8:15. We waited at the gates for about 15 minutes, until they let us enter the park at 8:30.
We had the first PS time, so H&V wasnt crowded yet. Minnie was holding court right inside the entrance, and Pluto, Goofy, and Dale were circulating. Chip came out just as we were leaving. We enjoyed the food at this meal, and the selection was pretty good. I thought the Mickey Waffles were soooo cute! At 9, the characters did this cute little dance and show in the front of the restaurant. We were glad that we caught it, because we were on our way out the door.
The rest of our day was unplanned, so Buzz suggested that we try the NFL experience at Disneys Wide World of Sports Complex. However, we had to head back to the resort first to check out, and the NFL experience didnt open until 11 (I know, bad planning on my part). We got to the All-Star stop around 9:15, and waited and waited and waited. A bus finally stopped for us around 10 after I complained, and we made the short drive back to the resort.
We had express checkout, and our packet was hanging on the door, so we just had to call the number and hang up. That was it, it was so easy. We finished packing, then took our bags out front and put them into storage, and then we headed back to MGM to catch the bus to the Sports Complex. We waited about 5 minutes for the MGM bus, and less than 5 minutes for the Sports Complex bus once we got to MGM.
There were a whole bunch of different tournaments going on at the Complex; the place was teeming with teenagers. We headed to the NFL Experience and tried it out. We were very disappointed with this. We thought that you would go around in a group and do different exercises and drills to simulate NFL training and be rated against pro players. However, there were a few stations set up and you just did them (nothing too exciting). We were both glad that we didnt pay any extra for this (it was included on our LOS passes). We waited about 25 minutes on a hot little bench until the bus came to take us back to MGM.
We decided to hop over to Epcot to finish up the 3 countries we missed in the World Showcase, so we waited about 5 minutes for the bus at MGM. We grabbed a quick lunch at the Electric Umbrella when we got to Epcot. Buzz had a Hot dog and Fries, and I had the kids Chicken Finger meal ($15).
We did Mexico first, and rode El Rio De Tiempo, which was a walk-on. Nothing exciting on this ride. We then walked through Norway and did Maelstrom with about a 5 minute wait. Buzz really liked Norway because the girls were really pretty (I didnt think the boys were bad either!). We bought a delicious candy bar in Norway called Daim. It is crunchy caramel covered with chocolate. IT was so good that we bought 5 more bars to take home. We then walked through China and the Outpost before heading back to Future World.
The plan was to finish up with Innoventions before heading back to the resort, but my patience was shot. I just didnt want to be educated or play with any of the stuff in these pavilions. Buzz played a video game for awhile, and then I convinced him to hop over to the Magic Kingdom to say good bye to the castle. I had this incredible urge to finish the trip with the Magic Kingdom so I convinced Buzz to leave Epcot. The wait for the Epcot monorail was only 2 minutes, but the air conditioning wasnt working and we were melted by the time we got to the TTC. We transferred to the MK express (which was air-conditioned) and were walking in the gates in no time.
We walked through the shops on Main Street and did some last minute shopping and just soaked up the MK for the last time. Buzz wanted to do the Frontierland Shooting Arcade one last time, so we did. Then we enjoyed a snack of popcorn (Buzz) and Mickey Bar (Woody) while gazing at the castle, before finally saying good bye to the MK. On the way out we saw Minnie, Goofy, Pluto, Chip & Dale, Tigger, Smee, Meeko, and Captain Hook at the front gates.
We waited about 15 minutes for a bus back to the resort and were there about 6:15. We picked up our baggage so that we could pack away the last of the souvenirs and then grabbed a quick bite to eat in the food court. Our Mears bus arrived right on time at 7, and after stops at the Music and Sports, we were at the airport by 7:45. It was so strange to leave Disney property; the weight of the world seemed to press down immediately after we passed those gates. Buzz couldnt believe that we hadnt left Disney Property the whole trip.
After about a ½ hour delay (our plane was coming from Pittsburgh and was late) we were in the air and on our way home. Pennsylvania was in the midst of the remnants of Tropical Storm Allison, so we landed in miserable conditions. Buzzs father and sister were waiting at the baggage claim, and after getting our bags, we were on our way home. The trip of a lifetime was over. However, on the plane ride home, Buzz mentioned about possibly going back next year around Christmas. Perhaps the Disney Bug has bit Buzz, and I get to start planning another trip!
