Our story:

Saturday - June 8th
With heavy hearts, we woke up when the Mouse called at 7:28 am to start the last day of our trip. Even though we had a late departure and could spend our last day in the parks, we were both genuinely depressed. Buzz hopped in the shower while I made the usual run to the food court for drinks. Coming back, I noticed that all the doors around us had their Express Checkout packages hanging on their doors, but there was none on ours. I called the Front Desk, and they said we were supposed to get one, so they did the checkout over the phone (easy enough).

We finished packing and then lugged our suitcases to the front to store for the day. We didn’t call Bell Services because weren’t sure how long we would have to wait, and we wanted to get to the parks. After checking our luggage, we ran back to the room to make one final check and to say good bye. We made it to the bus stop by 9:05 am.

I wanted to finish our vacation in the Magic Kingdom (I am very insistent on this) but we decided to do MGM in the morning. The main thing I wanted to see on this trip since we missed it last year was the Hunchback of Notre Dame show. Since it didn’t play when we were there yesterday, we decided to head back today. An MGM bus pulled up after a 5 minute wait and we were on our way.

Once again, there were HUGE lines at MGM security. We made it to all the other parks at opening, and never encountered security lines this long! The first thing we did when we entered the park was to head towards the sports shop where Buzz had seen those pins and keychains yesterday. After purchasing some Miami Dolphin and Boston Red Sox pins (Buzz’s teams) we were on our way.

The Hunchback show didn’t start until 11, so we had a little time to kill. We hadn’t done Muppetvision 4d yesterday, so we headed there. We had about a 2 minute wait in the preshow area before we were admitted to the theater. This is my least favorite of the 3d movies in the park, but we still had a good time. Then, we got in line for the Hunchback show at the Backlot Theater. We bought Mickey and 100 years of magic ice cream bars and a coke to munch on while we waited.

They let us into the theater around 10:35 and we got great seats for the show. There is a lot of action in this show, so sitting in the middle or back of the theater is better so that you can take everything in easier. The juggler that entertained the crowd before the show was very good; we laughed quite a bit. The theater had only filled up about half way when the show began. I thought this show was very good! I think I may have liked it better than Beauty and the Beast even! It is very ingenious how they did some of the story lines. I think that Buzz enjoyed the show too.

We had done all we wanted to do in MGM, so we decided to exit. I found the Singing in the Rain umbrella on the way out and Buzz took my picture under it. We exited MGM and caught a bus to the Transportation and Ticket Center after about a minutes wait. We noticed some very BLACK clouds lurking on the horizon as we transferred to the monorail at the TTC.

Right after we got through the gates at the Magic Kingdom, it started to pour. This is when I made my only major mistake of the whole trip. I had forgotten to put ponchos in my bag! We bring our own ponchos from home and I carried two with me every day in the parks. However, when we were in MGM yesterday, we had used them when it started raining at night. I had forgotten to put two new ones in my bag last night, and now they were back with our luggage at the resort. We briefly considered purchasing some Disney ponchos, but then decided that we would wait and see what the weather was like after our Liberty Tree Tavern PS.

We first headed over to Exposition Hall to do the 100 years of Magic Kiosks, since these were the only ones we hadn’t done. These were one of my favorite things of the whole trip! We then walked through the shops on Main Street to stay dry. We got soaked making the mad dash to Liberty Square. We checked in at the Liberty Tree Tavern at 12:50 for our 1:00 PS. We were seated at 1:10 in the John Paul Jones Room. I really liked the décor in this restaurant and the food wasn’t bad either. Buzz had the Pilgrims Feast (basically Thanksgiving Dinner) and I had a Declaration Salad and Clam Chowder. We also shared an order of Fried Cheese. With two sodas, our bill came to $37.90 with tip and we had one last good meal for the trip. Food was definitely a high point on this trip compared to last year!

It had stopped raining while we were in the restaurant, and it turned out to be a really nice afternoon. We headed into Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe so that I could pick up a dated ornament to remember this trip by. I know lots of people who buy dated ornaments to remember trips and other important events of the year, so it was kind of disappointing that Disney doesn’t offer many dated ornaments (unless you want to wait to get one personalized). I settled on one and we were on our way.

One of the few things we wanted to accomplish today was to ride Big Thunder Mountain Railroad during the day. On the previous times that we had done this attraction, it was E-ride night, so we missed a lot of detail because of the darkness. So I ran ahead and grabbed Fast Passes for the ride. My other goal was to see if the Carousel of Progress was operating today. This is one of my favorite attractions so I wanted to try and catch it one more time in case it was closed permanently. However, the Carousel wasn’t open today, which kind of disappointed me but also made me glad that we had made a point of seeing it last year.

By this time, the crowds had returned and the Magic Kingdom was very crowded. We decided to ride the WDW Railroad, so we pushed through a crowd of people (and strollers) in Toontown to catch the train. A train pulled right in and we were off. This was a new attraction for us, and we enjoyed it. We made one full loop around the park, and then decided to stay on some more. We wanted to get over to Frontierland to use our BTMR Fast Pass and figured it would be easier to ride the train than to fight the parade crowds. We ended up getting stopped between the Main Street and Frontierland stations when the parade crossed the tracks. When we could go through during a stoppage in the parade, the Snow White Globe was right there. She and the other characters waved at us as we chugged past. This was a pretty neat Disney moment!

We got off at the Frontierland Station to use our BTMR fast passes. We got on the ride with no wait and were in the front car of our train. This is the worst car to be in! The ride is much better in the back where you experience more speed and get whipped around better. However, we did get to see some of the detail we had missed when riding this attraction before. We then decided to do Pirates of the Caribbean again and walked on with no wait. The kids behind us pointed out a hidden Mickey towards the end of the ride in the shadow of a lantern. It was pretty neat!

By this time, Buzz was pretty tuckered out after a long vacation and day in the parks with no rest. We walked down Main Street in search of some popcorn and then found a nice table along the moat in front of the castle (near the Plaza Restaurant). Buzz bonded with a duck that decided to come right up to us and beg for popcorn. I got some cute pictures of Buzz feeding the duck out of his hand. I wanted to do one more attraction before we left, so we checked the teacups. We decided that a 25 minute wait was too long for this ride, so we did Cinderella’s Carousel instead (got on the next ride). Buzz even rode this ride with me, which he wouldn’t do last year.

As we were walking along the pathway next to the castle, I noticed that Cinderella’s Surprise Celebration was playing in the forecourt of the Castle. We stopped to watch the show from one of the clearings along the path and had an unusual vantage point of the show. We both decided that this looked better than the Share a Dream Come True parade. Make a point of catching it if you have children, because there are lots of characters involved. We then walked through the shops on Main Street one last time before we said good bye to the castle and the MK. There was a bus waiting at the POR bus stop, and we were at the resort in no time.

When we got back to the resort, I got my carry on out of storage so that I could change for the flight home. We also got out our refillable mugs so that we could eat dinner in the food court before our towncar pick up. Buzz had a Pepperoni Pizza and cottage cheese and I had garlic twists and a fruit cup ($11.83). I changed in the rest room, and then we headed to the arcade to play a few games before we left. We picked up our bags, and our previous driver, Dave, was right on time for our 6:45 pick up.

We were at the airport by 7:15 and breezed through E-ticketing (very convenient). There were no lines at security, however Buzz did get wanded. We were at the gates in plenty of time and I got very depressed sitting there. Even Buzz admitted that if we would have taken today as a rest day, he would have been good to go for another few days in the parks (a BIG admission for Buzz!). Our flight took off for Philadelphia on time at 9:15 and it was very uneventful. We passed the time by looking at the 100 years of Magic book that I had bought in WDW.

After claiming our bags, we used the courtesy phone to call the Holiday Inn for pick up, and a van arrived in a few minutes. He dropped us off right at our car and we were on the road and headed home. We got home around 1:30 am and went to sleep knowing that our vacation was over. No Mouse would be calling in the morning and it would soon be time to go back to work. As Buzz said, “You know you had a great vacation if you are this depressed when it is over.” Reality really stinks…

Best and Worst of the Day:
Woody:
Best- The Hunchback of Notre Dame show at MGM
Worst- the feeling you get when you finally leave WDW property

Buzz:
Best- The train at the MK and lunch at Liberty Tree Tavern
Worst- Leaving and knowing your vacation is over

I was wondering if you were going to get back to MGM to buy those sports items for Buzz - you mentioned making a mental note to go back for them, but didn't mention actually going back to buy them on Day 7.

It sounds like a good last day, getting to do or re-do a few particular attractions and just wandering so that you get one last feel of the place. I know that you will be back, so it wasn't really good bye.

We did the same thing with our ponchos last trip, carried them with us religiously every day - except one day when we needed them!

Thanks for the report and I look forward to your recap.

It's so hard to not be depressed on your last day:(

Have really enjoyed your reports!
