Our story:

Thursday - June 6th
Today we got back to park touring and the Mouse called at 7:38. We originally had a Donald’s Breakfastsaraus PS for today, but we decided not to do it so I canceled it. Buzz showered while I got drinks, and we were at the bus stop by 8:30. A bus for the Animal Kingdom pulled in right away, but it was standing room only. We got on and made it to the Animal Kingdom by opening.

Once we got through security, we bypassed the very long lines and used the Rainforest Café entrance. This is a great tip from these boards! Since we hadn’t done the Safari ride on Tuesday, we joined the hordes of people heading to Africa. I ran ahead and grabbed Fast Passes for 9:45 – 10:45 so we could do something else while we waited.

We decided to the walk the Pagani Exploration Trail, which is right next to Kilimanjero Safari. This trail was much more crowded than the Maharajah Jungle Trek was on Tuesday. Again, people just rushed through and didn’t bother to really look at the animals. I wonder why people bother to even come to this park if they aren’t even going to bother looking at the main attractions…the animals! Anyway, we saw tons of birds, a hippo, black and white monkeys, and most of the gorilla family. The gorillas were very fascinating to watch, the silverback was very impressive.

We then walked through a shop in Harambe before using our FP for the Safari. We waited about 5 minutes for the Jeep and then we had a delightful safari. We saw plenty of animals including giraffes, zebra, elephants, hippos, rhino, lion, cheetah, crocodiles, and many others.

After the Safari, we grabbed Fast Passes for It’s Tough to be a Bug, and then got a snack of frozen pink lemonade and a giant soft pretzel (yum!). We ate outside on the patios overlooking the lake (I believe it is behind the Flame Tree BBQ. It was very nice and quiet here and we could here the music from the nearby Tarzan Rocks show. We then walked on the trails that surrounded the Tree of Life to observe the animals and the carvings.

We went back to use our Bugs FP and were seated after about an 8 min. wait. My chair worked this year, so I got to experience the full show. I think that this show is very cute, and I love the movie posters in the lobby. The only other thing I had wanted to do today was go out to Rafikis Planet Watch, but Buzz was ready to leave. So, we stopped to buy a wooden giraffe that wanted and then we headed out to the bus stop. A bus was waiting at the stop, and we were back at the resort by 12:30.

We had lunch in the food court. Buzz had the Nachos Supreme and Cottage Cheese while I had a Taco Salad and Fruit. Our bill came to $16.60. After lunch we decided to go to the quiet pool to relax. It wasn’t real busy at the quiet pool and we were able to grab some lounge chairs in the shade. We spent about and hour and a half here relaxing and even napping a little. Buzz noticed a little lizard in the bushes, so we spent the rest of the trip looking for them around the resort.

Our normal Mousekeeper wasn’t working today, and when we got back to our room around 3:00 pm, she was just starting our neighbors room. I thought this was very late in the day to be getting to our room, but we said that we would go over to the store for a few minutes if she wouldn’t mind doing up our room. So, we went to the store and I picked up a few items I wasn’t able to get at the World of Disney the night before.

I was a little disappointed when we got back to the room and there were no little towel displays. We changed and got ready for an evening in Epcot- World Showcase. We got to the bus stop around 4:20 and a bus pulled up within 2 minutes. At Epcot, the entrance on the far right never has a line, so we were through security and in the park in no time. We had a little time before our dinner PS, so we walked through Innoventions West. Buzz played the ice hockey game while I played Zoog genius.

We walked over to Canada and checked in for our 5:30 PS at Le Cellier. We were seated after a few minutes. This restaurant is very nice, but also small so a PS is probably a must. I don’t like steak so I ordered the mixed green salad, cheddar cheese soup and a side of the garlic and herb mashed potatoes. Buzz ordered the filet mignon and the cheddar cheese soup. We both really liked all of the bread sticks, especially the pretzel ones! We also liked the soup and Buzz said his steak was excellent. With two sodas and tip, our bill came to $50.95.

After dinner we concentrated on the other side of the World Showcase since we didn’t see those countries on Tuesday night. We walked through the Mexico pavilion and rode El Rio Del Tiempo (walk on). We then headed over to Norway and grabbed Fast Passes for Maelstrom. We walked through the Puffin’s Roost and I bought some candy called Daim that I had enjoyed from last year. We then walked through the shops in China and Germany before heading back to Norway for Maelstrom. We got in line, but after a few minutes they made an announcement that the ride would be closing for the evening because of technical difficulties. When we were walking out, we could see people stuck on the ride so we were glad we weren’t them.

It was now close to 8:00, so we decided to find a place for Illuminations. Last year, we had stood at a spot where we couldn’t see the globe, so we were disappointed with the show. This year, I wanted to tape the show so we tried to find a good spot. It was starting to get really full around the lagoon, but we found a spot under a tree near Canada. The tree blocked some of the higher fireworks, but we had a good view of the whole lagoon. I walked over to Trapper Bobs and bought two Cinnamon and Sugar Beavertails to snack on while we waited, Yummy!

Illuminations was very good, we enjoyed it much more this year. Buzz was able to tape the whole thing, even though it started to rain during the second half (the tree helped us stay dry). We decided to see what the Boardwalk was like, so after the show we walked through the International Gateway and made the short walk to the Boardwalk. We walked through a few shops and had originally planned on doing Jellyrolls. However, I had a horrible headache so we decided to head back to the resort. I really liked this area and would like to stay in one of these resorts on a future trip!

We headed back to the Boardwalk Inn to catch a bus to Downtown Disney. This was our only transportation problem of the whole trip. We waited about 25 minutes for a bus to Downtown Disney. Apparently, some people had been waiting significantly longer and by the time a bus came, there was quite a crowd. We all squeezed on, and we were at Downtown Disney within a few minutes. We wanted to take the boat back to our resort, however, when we got to the dock, the Port Orleans side was closed but the Old Key West Side was open. I went into Cap’n Jacks and they said the boats had stopped running for the evening because of the rain. I think that they should have posted a sign because lots of people were waiting. I went back and let them know and then we headed to the Marketplace bus stop. There was a bus waiting and after a quick stop at Pleasure Island, we were back at the resort in no time. I showered and we were in bed by 11:30.

Best and Worst of the Day:
Woody:
Best- Illuminations and World Showcase
Worst- not getting to ride Maelstrom

Buzz:
Best- the food at Le Cellier
Worst- transportation from the Boardwalk Inn

I love the cheese soup and breadsticks at Le Cellier - yum - thanks for posting!

Cheese soup and pretzel bread!! my favorites. We are not scheduled to go back to WDW until January but reading your report makes me want to try for a trip sooner.

Wow! It sure sounds like a busy day :D ! Hope some sleep helped with the headache.

puffkin,

It looks like we only crossed paths once that day - in Canada as we were leaving "O Canada" and you were securing beavertails after finding your Illuminations viewing spot. We almost got beavertails that night, but opted for something frozen. Sorry to hear about the headache and the long wait to get back to POR. It sounds like our experience trying to get back from Fantasia Gardens / Swan to POR via DD after the parks had closed. The seems to be the only drawback to an otherwise great transportation system. You just cannot get from resort to resort in a hurry. There is not much demand for resort to resort buses, but that's hard to remember while you are sitting there waiting for a bus to arrive.

Looking forward as always to your next installment.
