Buying Wine at F&W Festival

I know that you can buy wine at the Food and Wine Festival. Do you drink it while in Disney or how do you get it home? I know that's too much liquid to be carried on an airplane and I wouldn't trust it in my luggage with the baggage handlers. Any suggestions?

Sorry, but I don't have any suggestions. We're in the same boat. So, we don't buy any. Disney won't ship it for you, but I gather some people take it to one of the Disney hotel conference centers and have it packed and shipped from there. Our state doesn't permit out of state shipments into the state, so we're reluctant to do that.

I would probably drink it there if you are flying home.

I would also be mindful of what you buy. I bought a bottle a few years ago only to discover I could buy it in any wine store much cheaper.

Just remember very few wines offered at F&W are exclusive to WDW. Most can be purchased online or in your home state.

To answer your question I have purchased wine to enjoy in our room, and I have traveled with wine and other alcohol in my checked luggage, usually after a cruise when I have done duty free shopping or when returning from Europe. I have yet to have a bottle break in my luggage.

When we travel and want to bring alcohol back on the plane this is what we do. I pack extra ziploc bags. I put the alcohol in the ziploc bags, wrap it in dirty clothes and it has always made it back just fine. No breakage so far, thank goodness.
Now with all the weight restrictions, it may be more of a problem.
What we did last fall for our trip to antigua and PR...we packed our largest suitcases, not full so we had extra room to bring alcohol back. The resort we stayed at would bring a scale to your room, so we got that, weighed everything and we were good to go. Even with all the rum purchases, lol.
These days it seems to depend on which airline you fly.

Another option...mail things back to yourself. We did that from CA after coming off a cruise.

Also..just write everything you enjoy down...all the specifics and special order it from you local liquor store when you get home. That is what we will do this year, as disney charges so much more than the local places for a bottle of anything.

Sorry, but I have to disagree with you on this one. It is illegal to ship alcohol via USPS. Fed-Ex is the only carrier who can ship alcohol, and I believe the current regulations may state it has to be shipped by someone holding an alcohol license.

Never tried to fly with wine, cannot help you there. We usually drive, and do bring a few bottles with us (in Georgia we cannot always have it shipped). Agree with taking notes and bringing your list back. We've done that and usually are able to find most things. Check your local reseller, or online (if you're in a ship-friendly state). FWIW.

Last time I was at food and wine I bought several bottles of wine and shipped them back. I took them down to the giftshop at the hotel and paid them to ship the item along with other items bought there back to my house. They sent it via UPS

I have some experience with this. I have packed wine in my luggage and had it shipped. I've wrapped the wine in a couple of bags and then wrapped a beach towel around it. On our trip last year I went and had Disney ship it to my house. I highly recommend having Disney ship it. It doesn't cost to much and you don't have to worry about the bottle breaking in your luggage.

Unless things have changed you will not be able to ship it home. We asked last year about shipping wine, both in Epcot and at the hotel gift shop and it is illegal to have it shipped over state lines. Your only choice would be to put it in your luggage. We decided not to do this since we didn't want to be over 50 lbs. and as others have said nothing is exclusive so you can find it at home.

Bingo...wines at the various booths are not high end and are easy to find at any wine shop.

Like another poster, I have put the bottles in a bag, wrapped them in towels and then surrounded them with some clothes and checked the luggage. I have done this twice and there were never any problems with breakage.
