Prices are discounted on the boat but your friend should know about the resale market before buying directly from Disney.

We bought our DVC membership a lost a year ago while on a cruise. Our sales guide told us that some of the best deals Disney offers are during cruises. Ours included $ off per point and back dating our use year 6 months amongst other things.

Oops that was supposed to be 'almost' a year ago. Though a lost year ago does have a rather poetic ring to it!
