Buying/using annual pass on blackout day?

Last time we went to Disneyland, we arrived on a black out day, purchased our annual passes, and we could still enjoy the park that whole day. Has anything changed? Just making our plans for our next trip.

We bought our AP's online, and redeemed them on a blackout day in September with no problem. We took them to the turnstile, and were given a regular park hopper ticket to use. Later in the day, once the lines at the ticket booths died down, we turned in the park hoppers and got our APs. They also gave us a blackout pass so that we could use the AP's that day.

Another related question. It looks like in order to do the California resident monthly payment option, you have to do it online. Is this correct? If so, can I still redeem the passes on blackout date if I purchase them online?

I am trying to make the most of our low budget family vacation this year :)

You can opt for monthly payments at the ticket booth. You have to put a minimum of 1 day's admission down if it's not a renewal, with the rest coming in monthly payments. The first monthly payment will be within a few days, in addition to the money you put down.

If you are buying a new pass online, you can activate it on a blockout day and go in. If you are renewing an existing pass, the expiration date is the same, just one year forward. I'm not sure if you can renew at the ticket booth and still get in on a blockout day. You for sure can't if you renew online.

You could also buy a 3, 4 or 5 day park hopper, use the MM for early entry (assuming it's a DL EE day) then upgrade the hopper to a AP. This gets you around the blockout with the MM bonus thrown in and it wouldn't cost you any more.

Question about upgrading, does anyone know if you can do the CA resident payment plan for the balance if you're upgrading from hoppers to a Deluxe AP?

I'm sure you can, because you can put down any amount you want and they calculate the payments for the balance.
