Whatever you do, do it thoroughly - I remember Fergie the Duchess of York said that Princess Di stopped speaking to her when she (Fergie) let it slip in public that she borrowed a pair of Princess Di's shoes and ended up with plantar warts - which the Princess was plagued with
With the exception of dress shoes they've only worn a few times, I don't even pass down my kids' shoes. Heck, there have been days where I don't want to put on my own shoes!
Lysol should do the trick but I have to admit I won't ever buy used shoes. My DS's orthopaedist told me to never ever buy or wear used shoes unless we were just borrowing them for a few hours (so bowling shoes are okay ). I was told that because shoes wear to the walking stride of the previous wearer (e.g. have you ever noticed that your shoe sole consistently wears out more in one spot than others?), as well as being stretched to conform to the shape of the previous owners foot can damage your feet (callouses, hammertoe, etc.) and knees and hips because your body must then adjust to the wear pattern of another person. This is particularly true for children.
Same here. I'm not usually squeamish about shopping at a consignment shop or thrift store but there's no way I'm buying used shoes. A local consignment shop also sells lingerie and nightgowns which shocked me. I'm not buying those used, either.
