Buying undercover tourist tickets for a trip awhile away

Hi Guys,

I have a question about undercover tourist tickets. We have a trip we're planning for 2017 its a big family trip for a wedding in Orlando. We will be staying offsite, which we never do so we will need to buy tickets for this trip seperately. I was looking at undercover tourist, and on the Disney site itself but what I can't figure out is if I started buying tickets soon (I know sounds silly but this trip will be an expensive one so the sooner the better if you know what I mean) would they be good when we want to go in 2017 from undercover tourist or even just the Disney site? Or do I have to wait till 2017ish to buy those tickets, We are going for end of oct-first week of nov 2017. I know there use to be a no expiration option. Not sure I am new to this side of a Disney trip with staying off site.

Yes.

Good in 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020... (you get the idea.)

New, unused tickets don't expire.

It's a good idea but you do have to prepared for details of the trip changing as you get closer to the big day. 2017 is a long time away and a lot of things can change between now and then. Are you prepared to take that risk? i would suggest considering what would happen if the trip doesn't happen. Would you be OK with having those tix still in hand? Would you have other uses for it? (it's still a great way to lock in 2014 prices for a trip far in the future since Disney is super reliable about raising prices).

You can also consider buying 10 day nonexpiring tickets. it's about double the cost but gives you more flexibility. That way if the family decides to only go to the park 3 days out of the trip, you have tix that can be used on other trips. Plus you will also have 10 days WP&More. They also make offsite visits or short trips a feasible option. However, if your family decides to stay offsite and all buy 10-day tix with WPF, then you will have essentially lost your gamble and would have tickets that cost 2x as much as everyone else.

We bought our nonexpiring tickets because we were going to be on a Disney cruise and I was looking for something to do 1 day pre cruise and 1 day post cruise. We decided the tickets would be an investment against future rising prices and we knew we would return to Disney to use them at various points. I was mentally prepared to not use the tickets for 5-6 years because our usual trips are 10-12 day on-site visits with free dining. We've done another short 2-day trip since then and I was thankful we had our NE tickets which made that an affordable option.

True of all new WDW tickets purchased directly from Disney or from any of their authorized resellers (of which Undercover Tourist is just one of many.)

Thank you for the heads up of options and things to consider! We are frequent Disney vacationers, so we would definitely be able to use tickets on another trip if anyone decided they could not come for personal reasons. We go about every other year we are headed down this fall and cant wait! So we do feel more the ok with purchasing tickets in advance for this due to our Disney VK cycle, I don't see them ever not being able to be used but definitely something to keep in mind of the options you suggested thank you!

For a little while more, you should still be able to buy Non Expiring tickets from resellers like Undercover Tourist until they run out of stock. I know they were still selling them this morning. I am really debating buying a 2nd set as an investment for the future. But I am still only 3 days into my first set. It's a big money commitment for a 2nd set - a $3k investment for the 4 of us. Plus I won't need it for 3-5 years or more.

I just checked the UT website a second ago, there are some NE available. (10 day hoppers plus water park fun and more-no expiration) How many they have, and how long they will last, who knows. If someone wants them, they probably should purchase soon.

I have the ticket in hand but will not be linking it on MDE until I get close to the 60 day mark. That way if something were to happen to me, someone else could use the ticket. Once it is linked, it is non-transferrable.

One concern about buying tickets so far in advance is the possibility of not buying enough days. While you could add days after first use, you would only be able to book FP+s, in advance, for the number of days in your linked ticket.

Actually not quite. Once it is used then it is non-transferable. But if it is unused, even if it is linked in MDE, it can still be transferred to another person. (Although I think that person would have to be in the "friends and family" list of the initial ticket-holder.)

Exactly! I just linked tickets bought through Cheaptickets. There's a "reassign" option under each name on MDE.

OP - not sure what type of tickets you're looking for but I got a great deal on 5 day hoppers. Planning to use these and add WPFM after first use.

At least right now, now not 100% true. Once linked they can be Reassigned to other members in your "friends and Family"



I had both of these tickets under one name but created a second "me" to hold my new base ticket so it didn't accidentally get used instead of my 10 day No Expiration Ticket. I'll reassign it back when it's time to use the ticket. If it changes in the future I'll just put both people on the reservation with different colored MB and I'll just need to remember what band to use what day.
