Buying tickets through UT instead of Disney after fastpass selections made?

My parents are going next month and have booked their fastpasses already. They had a room+tickets through Disney direct, but have since learned about undercover tourist and would rather go through them. Is it possible for her to buy those tickets and link them without losing their fastpasses?

Yes.
"Safest" way is to buy the new UT tickets, link them to MDX,

and THEN book a "room-only" reservation at your WDW resort, then cancel the current package reservation.
(Alternately, for the resort, You can call and ask that the current resort "package" reservation be converted to "room only.")

They also don’t need to cancel the entire reservation. If you call Disney you can get the tickets removed, so it becomes a ticketless package. It may be safer to do it that way so you don’t run the risk of no room availability, or someone snatching it up in between cancelling and rebooking.

You're correct.
It SHOULD have worded the info to book the NEW room-only reservation before canceling the current package (room and tickets) reservation.
In fact, I'm editing the original reply to that effect.
