Hello,
I'm an AP holder but have family coming to visit. They want to go to AK. They have not bought tickets yet. Can they buy at the gate and make a reservation same day? I keep telling them to buy the tickets now and make a reservation but they are convinced they can buy at the gate and make a reservation at that time. Saying why would they sell me a ticket if I can't go in? They have a point but don't think it works that way anymore. Anyone with helpful info? Thanks in advance.

If the parks are full for park reservations they will not be able to purchase a ticket at the gate. They are risking getting all the way there only to be turned away. Parks are full many days so it's a risk they must be willing to take.

You may wish to send them a link to the availability calendar and ask them to keep an eye on it. Any days that a grey mean they could not purchase a ticket at the gate.

Very risky! They can 100% buy at the gate and the CM will setup the reservation for them, assuming there are park passes available. You didn't say when you were visiting but with the 50th anything for the rest of 2021 is a big gamble to not have pre-booked.

I would show them the park availability calendar and how many parks are already booked for the next couple of weeks.

Adding to the above response... any day that is yellow means while they may be able to buy a ticket, they may not be able to enter AK. Right now availability looks pretty good more than a couple of weeks out, but they should keep an eye on it because that changes -- and can change quickly.

They are coming 4th of july week. I keep telling them to book now for the 6th at AK but they are not listening. Thanks fo rthe information. I will pass it along.

So what is their back up plan if AK is full that day & they can't go? Is this a "oh well another time" type of deal or are they going to be really upset if they can't get in?

If they know for sure they are 100% going to AK that day & that is what they 100% want to do I don't understand why they wouldn't buy tickets now? Waiting til the day of is risky, but maybe that's how they like to roll. Some people do & it works out fine for them. Being a holiday week I wouldn't take the chance.
