I tried searching for this but I couldn’t find the information. If there is a thread like this that you know of, please post it here and I will delete this one.

I am currently in FROR for 160 points for VGC. I would like to purchase a 25 point direct contract for perks purposes but I was curious if I have to wait until my VGC closes or if there is a certain time frame after closing to purchase direct? Going for the Poly instead of CCV due to monthly dues alone considering 25 points won’t help me at the 11 month mark.

You can buy before you close on resale, but you'd have to buy the minimum new member buy-in amount, which I believe is 50 at Poly. If you wait until you close, you can buy the 25 add-on.

You'll need to wait until you have a member ID to be able to purchase a direct contract at the 25pt entry point.

You can purchase at any time with the 50pt entry, assuming your UY is available at PBV. The property, which is nearly sold out, will be limited to whichever units (each tied to a UY) is still available.

If you are going the PVB route with a currently unavailable UY, it might be best to reach out to your guide and get on a waitlist for 50pts (they won't put you down for 25pts as you are dead to them until they have you locked in for the next several decades), and then when everything goes through, you'll have spent 6-12 weeks on the waitlist, and when it becomes available, you can just buy the 25... assuming you're closed.

Given that Poly is more readily available direct (even for sold out UYs), you may want to wait until you're closer to closing. The resale process can be dragged out, or you may get ROFRd. Godspeed.

Why not buy VGC direct? It might take some time (3 months) but would be better than have 25 points at Poly or CCV.

VGC in 3 months is pretty impossible direct from what I've heard from multiple sources. In fact I called and asked and they won't even put me on the wait list for VGC, not sure if it's true but they said wait list is closed.

Thats what they say about VGF, but I still was able to get direct points. Just nag your guide until they come up with the points.

How long did it take for you VGF points? I'm about 3 months in on the waitlist for a Sept use year....my guide told me I might have to wait up to 18 months.

Well I was planning on doing this with a Hilton Head contract, but seeing as the September use year is the lowest % available just might switch my plans up. Uggggghhhh.

About 2 months this summer for the VGF points. Just keep nagging your guide by phone and email.

That is what has been reported but it still wouldn't hurt to ask about it.

Since you're buying VGC I assume your trips are going to be concentrated at Disneyland? May I ask what your reasoning is for doing a direct purchase? The big plus is the discounted AP's at WDW but at DL it's a whole $20 off of the more expensive passes.

Yes mostly DL but I am also in the position to start doing WDW trips every 2-3 years or more. The AP obviously wouldn’t be the perk that would be for me but the other perks where if I dont want an AP to DL, I still get my dining discounts, occasional ticket offers for my WDW and perks associated there is what intrigued me. Am I mistaken? If it’s not worth it, I would rather not deal with the hassle of another contract. Please feel free to pop my bubble anytime haha.

The overall consensus on these boards is that the majority of the extra money spent on a small direct contract is recuperated via WDW pass purchases, as those are $200+ in savings per person each year. For all the other discounts (dining and shopping), the purchase of an add on for this purpose is not worth it, as you can get these by holding an AP or a Disney Visa Card.

Even with the DVC ticket discounts, you can usually get a better deal at UndercoverTourist. The difference in the DVC tickets are their expiration (6 mos) vs UT (std 14 days). Correct me if I'm wrong, but it doesn't sound like you'd be visiting WDW twice in a 6 month period.

You definitely have given me pause to think. Sounds like buying direct is definitely something that could be money wasted. I appreciate the honesty and looking out.

The best DVC ticket deals have come with certain restrictions that don't work for everyone. For example they had a 4 day ticket that each day had to be used at a different park. Worked great for some but not others. The current ticket deal is similar price to a UCT ticket with the exception that the DVC ticket doesn't expire for 6 months after the first use so you could get in 2 short trips on it. But if you go to Walt Disney world only once in a year then that isn't important and it's a slightly better price to buy from UCT. The dining discounts are nice perks to get and while they're more plentiful at DL they can be gotten with an AP there too. And unless you're buying a lot of merchandise and dining at places that take the discount it takes awhile for those discounts to add up to the difference.

What you would get for perks with a direct add on that can't happen any other way is access to the Member lounge at Epcot but there's no guarantee on how long that will exist. It's extended thru 2018 but after that? Maybe it will go on but there's no guarantee. And you also get access to the member park events but you need to have a trip planned during that time or it's a non-perk. Some will want to at least have the option but it does come at a cost and you might never be able to take advantage of it.

I'd do VGC even if it took a number of months in this situation unless I had a specific plan for the 25 pt contract.
