Buying Small Contracts Versus Buying Additional Points

I know many people add on smaller contracts as point needs changes. What I am wondering are the pluses and minus of adding on a smaller resale contract versus simply buying the additional points needed for a unique trip from Disney. What makes economic sense? Can I buy additional points if I can borrow from an existing contract? How many points can you buy from Disney? How much are the points? How often can you buy these points?

You can only buy 24 points per year at $15/point, and they can only be used at 7 months. If you need points valid during the home-resort booking period, that won't work. And if you need more than 24 points, it won't work.

For a unique trip I'd look for a points transfer. An add on would be if one were consistently short.
