There is a possibility I may need to sell my 150 point BWV contract at the end of the year. If I buy a smaller point contract (say 50-60 points at another / or same resort) before I sell my larger BWV contract, am I still able to keep the smaller add-on contract? Not to go into too much detail, but I will be getting the DVC contract as part of a divorce settlement :thumbsup2 but am unsure I'll be able to keep up with the maintenance costs, or be able to go to WDW every 1.5 years :sad2: . I love the DVC membership and accomodations, so I am hoping this would be possible. Also, any other thoughts anyone might have on this would be very much appreciated.

Yes, you can sell a "master contract" without selling any add-ons. Do you know anyone that may want to rent a short reservation from you on an annual or every-other year basis? That way they could cover most of the dues and you could keep the original contract.

I rented once (banked points that came with the contract when I originally bought it from the timeshare store) and the experience was fine. I really don't want to keep the contract with the plan of renting long term, mostly because I am in a constant state of borrowing so I never have to worry about losing banked points. I don't have a friend/ relative who I could depend on for a semi-annual trip, though that is a great idea.
