Buying resale questions

O.k. So we've been looking into DVC, buying from Disney, buying resale, not buying at all, and what resales to buy. Here's my problem...

We love WL and would love the Villas, however they expire quite a bit sooner than AKV or SSR. We would then select AKV, but that resort is so far away from the other 3 parks...but very similar to WL.

So do we purchase big into WL and have it expire before AKV?

Do we purchase AKV because it's just like WL, but will also last longer?

Do we purchase AKV and a WL resale and move points back and forth?

Or...heaven forbit this be a suggestion...do we not purchase?

Part of me wants to wait or buy small into WL and then purchase part of the Towers, but the price of those will be substantially more.

Buy at the place you like best.

We bought at BCV because that was where we could see ourselves having the best time. We didn't even give the shorter contract much weight in the decision. Our thinking was, "would we rather stay more years at a place we don't really like, or a few less years at a place we love?"

And since's there's no guarantee of booking outside our home resort at 7 mo, we bought where we KNOW we will love the room we might be "stuck" with. I would not be happy being tied to SSR or AKV if everything else was booked at the 7 mo window (no offense, SSR/AKV owners; they really just aren't our cup of tea).

I agree, buy where you most want to stay. Even at the 2042 resorts, you are still talking about 34 years. Who knows what will happen in the next 34 years. That's over 1/3 of a century.

One thing you mention is purchasing AKV and VWL and "move points back and forth." Not sure what you mean but be aware that for any home resort ressie using 11 month window, you can use only points attached to that resort. You cannot mix AKV and VWL points and reserve 11 months out at one them using both.

General advice in past has been to buy where you want to stay because 11 month window can be important a number of times of year and even more so at smaller resorts like VWL and BCV.

However, I question whether one should necessarily follow that advice now, particularly if you are a young family. Having the longer contract period for AKV should be considered a very important factor in that situation.

It is unknown whether the price of the Towers will be substantially more. It has not even been declared to be a DVC resort yet. If and when it does become a DVC for sale, I suspect the purchase price for DVC may rise at the time but possibly by not much; what they are likely to do instead is have points per night be higher than any other resort, effectively charging a higher price but without significantly raising the actual per point price.

yeah, if you'd feel disappointed to be "stucK" in AKV, then just buy VWL (assuming you can book 10-11 months in advance - OTOH, if you can't book till 7 or fewer months out, you can't use the home resort advantage anyway so just buy the cheapest resort with the cheapest maintenance fees.)

if you're just happy to be onsite, then buy AKV and book it at 11 months and try to move to VWL at 7 months (and ride the waitlist if you gotta.) if you're ok staying at AKV most of the time, then you're good to go.

Wow! O.k. Thanks. I'm 27, my DW is 28 and we have a 2 and a half year old and another on the way in November, so we're looking for longevity, but what's not to say I can't buy into another deed later in life. 30 years is a lot and enough to get the kids out of the house. Hopefully. When you put it that way, I think VWL is the best choice for us.

I didn't think too much about only being able to use the points at the home resort for the 11 month window. I'm thikning we'll go the VWL route...

My other thought would also be that they just offered an extension to those members who own at OKW. So you never know what could happen in that regard at WLV. I say go for it and don't worry about when the deed ends until that time comes.

with young kids, MK will be a big part of your WDW stay, and being a quick boat ride away will be nice. It is also a very compact resort, so an easy walk from parking to villas, from boat to villas, villas to hotel, villas to pool, etc. With young kids in tow, this can be important--esp. when you need to run back to the room for the 4th time from the pool b/c you forget the ..... My kids also really enjoy the things to do over at Ft. W, which has easy boat connections.
Also, VWL is VERY small and is harder to book, esp. at Christmas than larger resorts. I also think that AKV will be much easier to book than VWL b/c of the vast number of rooms. We own at VWL for the above reasons, and love AKV and hope to book into AKV at the 7 mth mark.
