ok well we have finally made an offer for DVC through a resale company, has anyone bought this way before? if so can you please help on a couple of matters,

they are asking me to overnight a deposit cheque along with the contract.

So what is the best method of sending something overnight to Florida & do I really have to send a cheque as I know this has to be in American funds, I had assumed I would be able to bank transfer. Please help as we have a limited amount of time to do this.:confused3

I have just received an email from the timeshare company saying their bank charge $75.00 for a bank transfer & I know our bank charge £8.00 but they will do a cheque in dollars for £10.00, so maybe I should do that but will the dollar rate be less and how do I send the cheque to them to ensure safe arrival???

Sorry, don't know the best way to do a cheque, but would they take a cc payment? It would be much easier and you'd avoid a lot of charges.

thankyou for replying Hilary, unfortunately they will not accept credit cards, (unbelievably for the USA).
I will speak to my bank again today to see what can be done, there has to be an easy way!

:confused3

Good luck! I hope you manage to sort out something with the bank :wizard:

We've just completed buying DVC through a resale from the UK.

I asked my bank to send me a cheque in American dollars (they sent it to me via recorded delivery when I sent the deposit cheque but because of the postal strike I picked up the cheque from my local branch for the balance cheque).

I then sent the cheque via "Airsure" through the post office which enables you to track the letter on the internet. It takes about 4 - 5 days to get to the USA but the cost is just over £5 as compared with about £45 to send it with an overnight company. I also looked in to the cost of wiring the money, which again was quite expensive as compared with my bank producing a cheque in American dollars for me to send by post. I let the timeshare company know at every stage what was happening - they made a note that we were from the UK and that might take a few days longer and they were absolutely fine with it.

It saved us quite a bit of money doing it this way.

Best of luck!

Hello,
We've just bought resale and to get the funds over to them we got a bankers draft from our bank (HSBC) which cost £20, we then sent it via Airsure which cost about £7. We figured it was cheaper than doing the funds transfer, only problem is we had to send the desposit first then the full amount later so you get charged twice which is a pain! :confused3 We are currently awaiting the request for the final payment, hopefully it will comes before the dollar drops too much! ;)
Good luck with your purchace! :thumbsup2

Hi everyone,

Thankyou for all you help, I called my bank today to order a cheque in US dollars, I was originally told it would take 2 working days and they would send it to me by special delivery but now they are saying 5 working days from Monday, I believe they get it done through City bank, If you have done this can you let me know how long it took as 5 days seems a long time and will take us over our allotted time to get the funds to TTS.

We've also heard today that our contract has gone to Disney for ROFR so please send pixie dust and keep your fingers crossed for me. Thankyou::yay: :cheer2:

Hello!
We found this different with different UK banks. We have two banks Natwest and HSBC, Natwest said 5 working days to order the cheque and send it to us, like you we thought this was too long to wait especially considering the actual transfer or sending of the cheque to the US. So we decided to go into HSBC and have a chat with them, they did the cheque there and then, it took about 10 mins! :thumbsup2
However, having said that we found the TTS to be more than understanding about the time it can take for UK residents to get the funds across, so it should be fine. :goodvibes
Good luck with ROFR, it took Disney about 3 weeks to waiver ours.
