Buying resale first and then direct for blue card?

Hi! I’m sorry if this has been asked in the past. I couldn’t find the answer to exactly what I am wondering about.

If I purchase resale first (I’m not a DVC owner yet.), could I then purchase 25-50 direct points and get a blue card/benefits? Or is the only way to get blue card/benefits is to purchase their current direct minimum purchase of 125 points?

We really love Riviera, so the resale restrictions there isn’t an issue for us.

You have to have at least 125 points direct to get blue card benefits.

That’s what I thought. Ok, perfect. Thank you!

Under the current policy as of this writing, you need 125 total direct points-- so it can be divided amongst multiple smaller contracts purchased direct.

Two questions...
1. If you purchase say 25pts with the "add on tool", are those points useable for booking Riveria and theoretically the Disneyland DVC tower (assuming it follows Riveria's policies)?
2. If we purchase 25pts direct now with the "add on tool" for AKL, and then a 100pt contract at another resort direct later, would that essentially qualify us for "blue card" status (assuming the minimum is still 125)?

Yes to both.

We purchased a resale at OKW still waiting for membership and points to be loaded- its been a very long process for me at least as we started on 1/31/21!!! Since that time and in the interim purchased 150 points direct at Riviera- and points were loaded within a few hours and was able to book my welcome home trip! Hopefully only about a week more I will finally get my OKW points loaded so I can begin planning and using them. I really don't know at this point, if I would do resale again- it was such a loooonnnnnggg process and I am still waiting for it to be finally complete. Plus we now have total of 340 points and that really is more than enough for our family. We wanted the direct points for the blue card if and when some of the perks are restored. Till then we will take the dining and shopping discounts. That will really help with our trip in June. :)

Yes to both.
You should also keep in mind that the number of direct points needed for the blue card has increased in the past and could do so again. However, once you have the blue card, you don't need to add points when they increase the points because you are grandfathered based on the requirements in place at the time you purchased the points.
