Buying one time use points from Disney

If I'm short a few points while making a reservation (probably 4 pts. short), I understand that I can purchase the remaining points from Disney for $15 per points for that one time use, as long as I'm making the reservation during the 7 month window. Do i have that right?

Here's a little bit of a dumb question. The wording I saw said "one time use per use year per membership". Does that mean I could do this only once each year at the most and not in multiple reservations? Or does it mean I could do this only once EVER ("per membership")?

Also, if I bought the points in order to avoid borrowing, in order to preserve all my points for the upcoming year, would Disney care? Or must I have already borrowed all my upcoming points before they would agree to sell me a few additional points?

Thanks! :)

No, Disney doesn't care if you buy so you don't have to borrow. You don't have to use up any or all of your existing points to buy he one time use points.

The one time use points purchase policy means you can only perform this type of transaction once per UY. That means even if you buy 1 or 24 points in a transaction, once it's done it's done and you can't buy any more one time use points until the beginning of your next UY.

Yes, and you had your first question right. You use them for a 7 month booking but not for an 11 month booking.

Just an fyi too. If you end up cancelling a reservation, the points go back to your account as banked points and expire the last day of the uy it was bought for.

This is one perk I hope DVC never does away with. Yes the points are relatively high at $15/per, but the simplicity and benefit is far worth it.

We were able to to snag 2 nights at HHI one year by getting the extra 4 points we needed (none left to borrow).

And now, to help extend out our 160 pts, we are getting the full 24 points every 2 yrs. It is working out very well for us at his time.

We did try to find someone to transfer points, but that has not been very successful.

Slight thread hijack - what's the max # of points that can be bought in this manner per year?

Can you purchase the extra points as part of the on-line transaction if you are making the reservation on dvcmember.com?

Can I add on extra nights purchased with one time UY points to an existing reservation or does the whole reservation need to be cancelled and rebooked including the $15 one time UY points?

Thanks for the replies everyone! I made the reservation I was thinking of, and only needed to buy 2 points. What a nice convenient option to have on occasion.

I'm sorry I don't know the answer to this, but maybe someone will answer now since I bumped this up anyway. :)

I took advantage of this option today for the first time and it is great! It kept me from borrowing a huge chunk of next year's points to accommodate an extra room for some family members who wanted to come along. It also kept me from wanting to add on (at least for the time being)! I'm so thankful they offer this!

I recently called to inquire about buying a few points and MS encouraged me to borrow from the next year. He said the timeshare had a lot of years left with plenty of points to use. Of course, I knew this and did not take the suggestion. We do not want to get in to the cycle of borrowing.
