If we added on a resale OKW, will DVC let us keep the '42 expiration date, or are they going to make them all conform to the new expiration if the contract changes hands? Does anyone know?

As far as resales, I am guessing that it is what it is. If you are buying the original term without the extension already added on, you should be able to retain it as is.

That's what I hope. We're not ready to buy....but being able to keep the original date, and therefore pay a bit less would be important to us.

I just purchased and yes there are essentially 2 deeds (not really this simple) one that runs from now to 2042 and one that runs from 2043-2057, If you buy a 2042 contact you are getting the first one. You can go to DVC and buy the “extension” to the deed if you think it makes financial sense. I could never get the “upgrade fee” to make any sense to me unless I only expected 1.5% interest on the value of my money for the $15 upgrade or if the upgrade was only $7 at the 4% range. I was trying every way I could think of to financially justify it because from an emotional basis I really wanted it. I am hoping that in 20-30 years it will be a better value due to the shorter interest accumulation period and the avoidance of the additional maintenance charges, which will accumulate on the 2057 portion of the contract. Of coarse I am sure the upgrade price will change also.

Of course first DVC has to clean up the mess they made by not getting the members who were selling the paperwork before the estopple period.
