buying more points than you need?

Is there such a thing? We have 1100 and are borrowed to the max. To be fair, we gave away 900 points this year to loved ones and it was so worth it. But we’ll be taking a break for a couple years and let all the new lands (crowds) settle down and then it will be like brand new again and maybe we’ll have to add on. lol!

Yep....we have 150 points, have never added on, and find it more than sufficient. Several times we've used two+ years of points for a few nights in a GV. We only go every other year at most, and usually don't need more than four nights at Disney now.

Per @miTnosnhoJ, I was thinking we would start with 150 to meet our yearly travel needs (family of 3). When my husband did research, he thought that having enough points for a 1- bedroom would give us flexibility at 7 months, and also make it possible to do 2 trips some years when we rent studios. We're going for 300 at SSR. We thought about renting points only if we found a loaded take contact where we couldn't use the extra points in time, or theoretically if we ever take a couple of years off (unlikely with so many great results + VB and HH though).

300-320 is probably

We bought way more points than what we need....Somehow we always manage to use them and find ourselves looking to buy more. I'm kinda itching for some AKL points.

NO!!!!BAD,BAD, BAD. You already have enough points.

...But they have those club level rooms.

I would never buy with renting as a long term plan but it can be a good issue to get by a few years or to dispose of extra points early in the ownership. IMO one generally needs a cushion of points of 10-20% sometimes more up until yo get to a certain size then I might even underbuy. I'm not a big fan of small contracts or extremely large contracts but having some extra can be a godsend both for usage and for reallocations. For example if one is looking at AKV value studios in Adventure season you likely need a BIG cushion, at least enough to get savannah view for Dream or Magic IMO. OTOH if one is looking at a 2 BR in Magic season, one may not need a cushion at all. Or one might buy multiple home resorts and rent off years. But buying extra SIMPLY to rent long term is a poor decision from a financial standpoint.
