Buying Magic Bands

My wife, I and our 4 kids are off to Disney in December, but I will be out in Atlanta in September for work. As we're staying off park I'd like to get magic bands (seeing as our youngest were given the cards with star wars characters when they really wanted mickey and donald).

But I'm not sure if I buy them so far in advance would I be able to link them to my account and then just use them when we get there?
Also, can you buy them in any Disney store or will I need to buy them online?
so many questions I think my head is going to explode

I have never seen them in a Disney store but you can get them online, they come with instructions on how to link them to your account.

I've done this multiple times as I usually stay off property. You dont even have to buy them in advance. You can show up to any park ticket counter, show your tickets and ask to buy magic bands. They will link it up there for you and you'll be on your way in less than 5 mins. And they have all of the colors available too.. I think it cost $12 to buy one. At least it did last year when I got my pink one at MK

Us as well. We never stay on property. You have a ton of options to buy them. You can buy them online or at one of about a bajillion places within the parks. Most gift shops and stores sell them and it's easy to link them to your account.

You wont have any problems. We do stay onsite but have bought additional magic bands at the outlet in Orlando, online and in the parks, just follow the instructions to load them on to your account.
