Buying Luggage?

If you have a Tuesday Morning in the area, they often have good deals on quality luggage. I've also picked up a piece or two at Kohls on clearance.

The Samsonite Outlet Store is my favorite, but they're not always cheap. Nice luggage, though.

We use assorted sized Eddie Bauer duffles, not wheeled, which would probably be easier. They fly well, can be packed to hell and back, and have not ripped or tore in any way. They are lightweight, makes it much easier to keep it under the weight limits. We had Atlantic wheeled bags, which I liked. Honestly the duffles simply work better. You could simply pack a smaller one in a big one to have an extra bag for souvenirs on the way home. Get good quality bags, cheap stuff gets annoying quickly and will die rapidly on the airlines.

JC Penney had a huge sale on luggage this weekend. Everything was 50 - 60 percent off, plus an additional $15 off any purchase over $100 (or something like that).

I bought a 5 piece set that originally had a price of $300 for less than $150 including tax.

I am far from a luggage snob, but I usually buy good quality items. And this was a very quality set of luggage.

Well I just invested in a 32" rolling suitcase. I know it'll be heavy, but to me it'll be easier to roll one really heavy suitcase instead of two just plain heavy smaller ones through the airport in Rome. Dimensions still fit within the limits for an international flight.

It had an original retail price of $200 (which I know these are a bit exaggerated), at Value City for $59.99, and this week all their luggage is 25% off, so I got this huge, pretty nice suitcase for $45. It's Oleg Cassini.

So anyone looking for luggage, if you have a Value City near you they seem to have some decent deals of varying qualities of luggage. They had some great deals on sets, but I just needed the one piece.

However, if you plan on traveling a lot you'd be penny wise and pound foolish to buy a cheap set which will break on the 4th or 5th trip.

I just bought a 5 piece set at Costco for $99.
I'm no luggage expert, but they seem really nice and they have a 10 year warranty. They all have in-line wheels and handles that are hidden until you unzip a small opening and pull them out.

I would hope that with a 10 year warranty, they would last a lot more than 4 or 5 trips. But since it's Costco, even if they break a few years later, you could probably return them for a cash refund.

Don't forget stores like Ross, Tuesday Morning, Marshall's and TJMaxx. The first two, especially, tend to have some super bargains on name-brand stuff, including Atlantic, TravelPro and Olympia. They also tend to be good bets for funky colors, since those don't sell as well at luggage shops and dept. stores.
Tuesday Morning is particularly good for lightweight hardside models.

If you are looking for a smaller set, Costco has a nice 2 piece called the Adventure set. It comes with a 21" expandable wheeled backpack and 26" expandable wheeled pullman. It also comes with an organizer to hold toiletry items. We really like this set! It's a nice blue and grey color, very durable fabric. My husband just used the set for a business trip to China. He said it was so easy to spot on the luggage carrousel. And it is VERY expandable! Oh, and the cost is $99, but our costco has these on sale with a coupon for $69.99 from 2/28-3/6.
