Buying Ipod or Mp3 player???

As you say though, its only 16 Gb, very small compared to the 80 & 160 GB classics.
No hard drive in that version.

My ipod collection would not fit on such a small card and I don't want to carry around a load of cards.

I would have looked at it if it was 60Gb and above.

Obi, DH has heard they will introduce models with bigger memories very soon. He couldn't get all his collection on the new one as it stands either!
We're hoping they'll be out by Christmas!

:cool2: The Ipod I had evidently accepted music transfers directly from Apple computers only......There's a conversion process for PC's, but I was never able to get it to work. Apple exchanged the Ipod twice and I still had no luck...They were reluctant to take it back until I told I evidently wasn't smart enough to transfer music to it thru my PC. Also many of the music sites do not work with Ipod, except for imusic.
Went with a Sansa mp3 unit and have had no
problems transferring songs from a number of inernet sites....it's much more
staightforward to use than the Ipod. I'm sure other mp3 units work equally well, but Sansa is the one I had success with. IMHO Apple has made the Ipod difficult to use with non Apple equipment and I would shy away from it for that reason alone........

I use our Ipods on our IMB Compatable Pc's (shows how old I am, still calling that!!!)

Use ITunes to catalogue.
No problem downloading to the iPods
I can convert cd's, wMP, AAC's to MP3 with ITunes no problem.
It imports MP4 video no problem. I use WinAVI MP4 converter to convert to MP4 initially.
I can import MP3's directly into iTunes and they automatically update to the iPod.
I have never had a problem importing any vocal/video file, no copyright problems etc. Its a good interface.

My son has now decided he wants the Apple I-Pod video. The 30GB is around £180 and the 80 GB is around £240. (These are Tesco direct prices).

Does anyone (Obi) know how these prices compare with the US prices?
Thanks

Apple are very good at controlling the prices, the prices in the stores are the same as direct from apple in most cases.

I will PM you in another place for an alternatic=ve option.

Sue, I hope you spotted that there has been a decrease in price now for the 80 GB, I think its about £160 on Amazon. I usually just compare the Apple US store's prices with Amazon to see how much of a bargain or not they are. The good thing is the Apple stores actually have free internet access, so I usually just nip on Amazon there and compare prices.

As regards the comment about Ipods not working on Windows easily, this is just not the case. All our Ipods from the mini, nano, 30 Gb and Touch all work on the computers we have. Plus have relatives all using them fine and to be honest I think the vast majority of people will be Windows users.

Try the Microsoft Zune its brilliant and the Zune2 comes out the end of November over in the us. they have a 80gb version for 249.99 dollars. neither of the zunes are going to be released in the uk till next year. It not only plays music but movies, dab radio, and tv shows that you may have saved on your pc. it sound complicated but is one of the easiest to use.:cool1:
