I've been crunching numbers here and initally thinking that eating in and cooking at a DVC resort would be more economical. However, if I have to go out of the park to grocery shop and rent a car, it kind of seems like a wash, doesn't it? Can anyone tell me their experiences?

Gosh, I wish I could win the lotto and not worry about $$$ for vacation! :)

If you are staying at least a week, in my opinion, you should look into the grocery thing. We just got back from a 2 week stay at OKW and purchased our groceries from Super Walmart and Publix. We basically ate each breakfast in the room, ate lunch out at the parks, or wherever and ate suppers back at "home". We saved a good deal of money by doing this (with 2 teenagers)...but this only works if you are staying a longer length of time and you have a car. But remember if you go from the airport by limo service, most will make a grocery stop of about 1/2 hour or so...or so I have heard...we always have a car. Maybe you should look into just renting the car for the day of your arrival. And yes....I'd love to hit the lotto thing too!!!!But remember...don't buy too much food, it is easy to overspend on the groceries....we learned that a couple of years ago. And our meals are not very elaborate...pasta, salads, chicken, rice...lots of ideas once you think about it...and veggies. What a welcome from the french fries all over the parks.

We fly down and use the towncar grocery stop for perishable items. The dry goods are ordered through Netgrocer. This has worked really well for us the last 3 trips. DS has several food allergies and also required toddler supplies so Netgrocer was a great help. We only did one PS a day at the most. It does save $$.
