Buying gas in the US

CharlesTD
Thanks for letting us know how things went at the gas pump. I guess DH and I will be using travellers checks or cash. However, there were a few places in Orlando that refused the checks and the cash. They told me they couldn't turn the pumps on unless I put a card in the pump. I tried explaining I had a Canadian credit card, and was willing to let them have it while DH pumped, but I kept getting no. So, I usually ended up saying fine, I'll go to your competitors next door. I would then tell the competitors what happened, and I wouldn't have a problem getting gas from them. Go figure!! :goodvibes

So, these refusals we got at the gas stations is why I asked about using the credit card at the pumps.

Personally I have never had any problems with buying gas in the states at all on my credit cards. I have never tried using my debit card at the pumps. Have you considered getting a paypal card. It is a debit card that works like a mastercard. It will use the funds in your paypal account, but if you don't have enough money in your paypal account to cover your purchase it will charge your credit card that is hooked up to that account as well. Paypal is owned by Ebay. I just use my mastercard in the US or my AMEX card usually, but if I have some money sitting in Paypal I always empty it when I am done south.

Hi Snowhite's DH

So, you can use a credit card at the pumps to pay? I wouldn't have to run inside the gas station with it?
I didn't even bother using my debit card in the States.

CharlesTD, I personally howled with laughter upon reading your post. Leave it to a Canadian (as am I) to go to a HOCKEY GAME when in Florida! Love it! :rotfl2:

Yes well as my t shirt states HOCKEY IS CANADA and CANADA IS HOCKEY PERIOD LOL. We have been to a couple hockey games while in Florida we saw the Orlando Solar Bears play a few years back and we were acting like typical Canadian hockey fans screaming and hollaring etc and people were looking at us like we were from another planet. Everyone was dressed in suites and ties and dresses this was a real night out for people it was so quiet you could hear a pin drop in the place it was funny as hell.

We have a really popular WHL team here in Red Deer called the Red Deer Rebels. I once saw an interview on TV with an American player being happy to play in Canada again because we appreciated hockey and hockey players. I was amazed at how different it could be!

Ah yes coach Sutters team we have the Knights in the area we live but I am far from a supporter of their team. I respect teh Hunters but can't stand some of the kids on that team like Robbie Schremp and a few others. So as for the buying gas in teh US has anyone else tried the speedpass and had success with it?
