I've been fighting an ear infection for nearly 2 weeks. We're going to WDW a week from Friday, and if it's nice enough, I would like to swim. However, I don't want to get water in my ear. I have no idea where/how this infection developed, but I figure it would be best to have earplugs so water doesn't get into my ears.

Can anyone suggest a place to go to buy earplugs for something like this.

Thank you.
Bobbi :)

ds#4 had ear plugs for ears due to pe tubes. initially we had custom plugs made but they were out grown so fast that we started using the silicon ones. there are different brands but they are essentially the same. you can mold them to fit your ear and you get a good seal. ask the pharmacist where they are and he/she can direct you.

Dawn beat me to it... I also recommend the silicons ones. It's kind of like putting a hunk of silly putty in your ear, but they work like a charm!

Have a great trip! :thumbsup2

OK, so they are sold in drug stores? Thank you so much for your very fast answers!!!

yup, and also in large supermarkets in those areas that sell that type of thing, bandaides, etc, etc.

I suggest going to Wal-Mart and/or Target and looking at the different types of plugs and buy a couple of different sets.

They have plain wax ones, but they may get cold and hard, but they are cheap and inexpensive and can be custom molded to your ears.

I'd also try the ones sold expressly for swimming. They are a little longer and go deeper in your ear canal. They should provide all the protection you need.

You may also try a local scuba diving place if you have one.

You beat me to it, I was going to suggest the same thing. Speedo makes really good ones that I've used to keep up my lap swimming when I have a cold and don't want to mess up my ears. You can probably get them from a swimmer's catalog online easier than trying to find them at the stores. Try Speedo.com or www.kiefer.com. I order from them often and they are VERY quick with shipping.

DON'T LAUGH--I got this when DD got her tubes and our ENT, who is world renown and has written most of the books used in med schools for ENT dr's, told us to do this, use SILLY PUTTY. It is water repellent, you can mold it to your ears easier then ear plugs and is mostly flesh colored unless you buy the neon stuff. We used it for DD and it stays in WAY better then the ear plugs.

Also, if you have an inner ear infection, unless your ear drum is ruptured, getting water in your ear isn't going to make a difference.

that is correct. if the ear infection is otitis externa (canal to the drum) the alcohol drops work quite well and don't hold the moisture that naturally occurring in the ear, in.
