I would like to know how to buy into DVC when you live in a state that will not allow timeshare sales, like California.

I already own at BWV. I was told by the DVC customer service that I can not buy into SSR via the phone. Does this sound right?

Maybe that is why my sales rep did not return my messages:(

We live in the "blackout" State of Hawaii....so no direct DVC for us either. We can only buy direct from Disney if we go to Florida.

You can purchase resale via resale companies.

Dont like it but oh well!

Aloha!

You cannot make a purchase if you live in a state not approved to sell DVC. You need to be physically there for the transaction.

I was hoping to take advantage of the reduced prices a SSR, but I guess I will have to wait for a resale.

Whenever DVC adds another resort, they must have approval from each state before they can begin sales for that resort.

With each new resort, some states have taken months to grant approval. Usually DVC is very cautious about discussing anything with people from states where registration has not yet been approved- they can't even send sales information thru the mail.

Onsite sales are allowed, since registration has been approved in FL. if you live in a state where sales are not yet allowed, you might want to let your guide know of your interest in purchasing. In the past, they have been able to extend sales incentives for some in the tardy states. It's worth a try!

Enjoy!

I am not sure if it is just that SSR is not approved for sale yet in CA.

I know that after BCV went on sale, they raised the prices before NY approved BCV sales, so they sent out special offer to NY members to do add-ons (not sure if they sent this to people from NY who wanted to buy-in as well) at the prices when BCV went on sale. (DW and I bought an add-on then ;) using the deal)

So do as Doc suggested and make sure you guide knows you want to buy, and then once SSR is approved for sale in CA, you may be able to get a special offer like the BCV one, if the special has ended before then.

And another thing is if you can find CHEAP flights for a one/two night trip it may be worth it to go there for a day. meet your guide and start the process. I believe that once you start the process in FL you can do rest in mail. You can check with guide on this, they may need everybody to sign while in FL, so if anyone else (spouse) is to be on the paperwork, they need to make the trip as well. I heard of NY people doing this for BCV.

I'm in a total blackout state. Cannot receive any info about real estate from any other state. What a pain! Not even resale! So we bought onsite this summer! ;)

Washington state has the same thing. I flew down for one night just so I could purchase at OKW. It may have cost me a few hundred bucks but, I have no regrets!

Just curious if anyone knows which blackout states Disney is trying to get approved?

I'm sure if Hawaii ever does happen it will be the last one
:(

Aloha!

As was alluded to above, they extended the offer for NY at least due to the problem you are encourntering. I'd still call DVC and get someone live to talk to to make certain. Still, I would recommend resale. Good luck.
