Hi All,
DH gave me the okay to buy 150 points at SSR...but he is AD AF and we do have other options. I love Disney cruises, and I think the resorts would be fabulous, but it scares me to put my money in a timeshare. Please convince me !!! DH wants me to put the deposit down tomorrow !!!

Well the word "timeshare" is a scary word. DVC could be considered a time share but it is much more like prepaying for your vacations. Worst case scienerio, you sell it. The key questions:

Do you want to go to WDW every year for the next 15 years at least and maybe more? Don't worry about the AD, take your parrents, or sister or brothers family or friends.
Do you have the 13K or can you afford the payments?
Do you love WDW and spending time there woth your family or would you rather go somewhere else?

If there are 3 yes' then join otherwise wait until you get 3 yes'

We've been AD/Army for the past 17 years, we're DVC members, and we love it. We wouldn't look at owning a traditional timeshare, since it's not flexible enough for most military families. Some of the plus sides are that we don't have to take a whole week at a time, that we can bank points if we're PCSing or if dh is deployed, and that we have part of our vacation pre-paid. I also think it will be great when we retire in a few years, and still have our DVC to use for years to come!

DH is AD AF and we love it. I think it expands the options we already have. With the military, we have the option of SOG (and the WDW hotels that are used for overflow) and then the hotel in HI and one in Korea and Germany, right? Buying DVC opens up possibilities of the DVC resorts at WDW, HHI and VB...plus all the trade out options of the Interval International and Concierge Collection.

We love being able to have the benefits of a kitchen and laundry to have a more relaxing/less commando vacation. I know some love it, but we hate eating out all the time and dont really migrate towards fast food on vacation, so we like to do a few select special sit down meals and cook a few as well.

We're ad af and move about every year, and DH will be deploying constantly pretty soon - but we still love our OKW points! We've gone on points for a 7 night trip back in sept/oct and only had 3 week notice that we'd be able to go. We were still able to get a 1 bdrm there with no problems, and had a wondeful time. We've had to rent our points for next year because we'll be PCS-ing again, but I was able to rent them in less than 2 days without a hitch here on the rent/trade board. We may not always be able to use the points ourselves, but renting makes owning feasible for us - and I plan on using the points, without DH if I have to, after this next move. SOG has it's benefits, but we love having the kitchen and the washer and dryer - and the extra room! Good luck!
