My daughter enjoys trading pins with the CM's . We skipped this activity our last trip, but I'm now thinking about buying a lot of 20 so she can enjoy doing this again.

I'm seeing sellers on ebay that claim they are authentic and can be traded. They come with the Mickey ears backing and are stamped.

Is there something I'm missing. Seems like you can average less than $1/each when you buy a lot of 20 or so.

Any experience with this?

I bought 10 pins for $13 (including shipping) a few weeks ago on eBay. They appear to be authentic to me, and the seller was great about including ones that my DD (4) would like. They actually included so many princesses that I may have to buy more pins so that she has ones that she wants to trade.

There is a post on here about pin trading and who the dealers are on e-bay that you need to buy from. If you just enjoy trading then it really doesn't matter who you buy from. CM's will still trade even if you are trading a fake pin.

You can trust most of the pin traders on ebay. i spent my $13 and got 10 starters and it was just fine. in fact, it was a great investment. our whole trip my daughter was running all over creation trading pins with CMs and other kids. In the end, it's $13 or $15. Don't fear. It will be fine.

I bought 100 pins for $60 b/4 our October trip. We split them among 5 of us, kept a few that we liked and traded the rest with CMs.

The pins looked great and were easily traded. It worked out great and was a lot less expensive than buying from Disney.

As previous posters said visit the pin trading forums. I purchased several lots of pins prior to our Disney trip earlier this year. For us, we weren't sure if this was something we'd like. Now we love it and I plan on doing the same thing again for our next trip. Happy trading.

We also buy 100 for $60 on ebay and love  the pins we recieve. great quality - genuine pins in my opinion.

We travel to WDW for 8 nights and have 3 children (just returned 12/25). 100 pins works perfect for us. Each child gets about 4-5 new traders to start each day out with. They trade all day and at the end of the night they have 4-5 "keepers" to take home.

I bought a small cork board and mounted it on their bedroom walls for them to display their collections on - they love to organize all their "collections" together on the board after a trip.

My advise is buy more than you think you are going to trade. When they come in the mail I guarantee there will be some that you or your kids will love and have to keep even before the trading starts. Trading is also addicting - at less than $1 a pin it is always better to buy more just in case instead of running out and paying the high prices for pins at WDW.

HAPPY TRADING!

WARNING: Watch out about posting this information on these boards. There are some real haters that have nothing but mean nasty things to say about buying thm on ebay. I was attcked yesterday on the topic.

I also had great success buying them on Ebay. we bought 33 pins for just about a dollar each. Look for a seller with lots of sales and good feedback.

We got some the Kids wanted to keep and some they wanted to trade. They were all great quality and a good mixture. My kids (10 and 8) traded for the first time this trip and had a ball.

Have Fun!

nicki.mom of 3, it has nothing to do with people trying to be mean or nasty to you directly. There are known counterfeits on ebay and the pins that come in bulk are those that are known as "seconds" and are not up to snuff. The CMs are still supposed to trade with you even though the pins are not worth anything.

If you want to know about pin trading, do a search and find out more information on it.

Thanks for the advise again today. As I indicated in conversations yesterday I purchase my pins from dealers recommeneded on the collectors boards on DIS. They are nice high quality pins and you can not tell any imperfections or flaws. I do not buy cheap knock offs that are clearly defective.

Just because something cost more does not mean it is of better quality. All it means is someone was foolish enough to pay a higher price for the same product.

It is like my plane ride to MCO last week. I was sitting with my 3 children on the plan and a middle aged man was sitting in the seat next to my son. He said "wow this flight must have cost a fortune with 3 children". I said no - it was $220 each round trip from Detroit. We shopped around and got a good price. He had paid $460 for the same flight round trip. Was his seat better - NO. Did he get better service - NO. He just paid more.

100 pins for $60. No it lasted just 1 vacation. We love trading pins. It's a great way to get to meet different CMs.

100% agree - love meeting CM and trading is such great way to get kids involved in meeting people. My once quiet son will now run up to a CM alone and ask them to trade.:goodvibes

Dang! I thought I was doing good when I got 20 for my 2 girls to trade. Now I'm going to have to get more pins so I can play too!!

It is definetly hard to try and decide how many pins you need for trading! I let my girls trade 10 pins each day. Once they have traded all 10, if they see another one they want, they have to re-trade. If I didn't limit it, we would be trading way too many pins. We also display the pins on a cork board in their rooms. Pin trading can definetly get addicting! (Of course I trade more than 10 pins a day, but don't tell my girls that.)

Just thought this was worth sharing...we were at EpCot in Oct. and my daughter (8) tried to trade a pin w/a CM, and he refused to take the pin she wanted to trade him for...he said it wasn't "disney"! It was, in fact, Owl (from Pooh)...and it clearly said Disney on the back. She had gone over to him on her own and then came back and I was so surprised we just blew it off. She traded it later, no problem.

If a cm won't trade talk to a superior. They don't belong to them. My kids have traded for icky pins using $7 pins and been hassled when they wanted to trade for yet another pin.

OP, I don't know much about trading pins that I've bought on EBay, but we have bought several lots (4 or 5) with a total of about 250 Disney pins for DD5 to collect and they've all been really cool and seemingly "authentic". I don't know for certain if they are, as she has no interest in trading them and so we've never been told by an expert that they are or are not. I figure that either way, they are a lot of fun for her to look at and cycle through her various lanyards, and at 1/8th the price of buying new pins, certainly more cost effective.

As others have stated, check the seller's feedback and then go crazy.

:thumbsup2 I so agree with purchasing more than you think you will need. I cannot recall how many we purchased for our family of 4 (60?) but we could have used more on our 10 day trip! Our kids were nuts over the pins!

I also purchased each family member a "special" pin for our first Disney trip. I have Donald Duck in having a temper tantrum, my husband has Goofy, daughter has Belle, and son has Darth Sith (I think, not Vader). These special pins are NOT allowed to be traded!

I also purchased a special "Minnie Mouse riding a wave on a surf board" to give to our daughter after her surf boarding lessons. Unfortunately that was cancelled... Luckily I never showed her the pin and I put it away for a future try.

Nicki Mom of 3 --> great idea with the corkboard. I have been trying to figure out how to display the pins. Only I'm worried my kids will end up losing them.

Yes. My understanding is the pins are provided by Disney to the CMs specifically for trading. The pins are not the CMs personal pins. In fact, I thought I read somewhere that CMs are not permitted to trade their own personal pins when working.
