Buying diapers on property

Hi there!

My hubby and I are going to WDW next month with our 1 year old daughter. We don't want to have to pack a huge thing of diapers and wipes, just enough for the flight and shortly after. We are staying at OKW and downloaded their grocery order form, but diapers were not on the list. Does anyone know if they sell size 4 diapers and wipes at Conch Flatts. Also I heard you can buy single diapers in the parks at most gift shops or baby care centers...can anyone confirm or deny this?

Thanks

I know the gift shop at BC had them - I'd imagine all resort shops do. They were expensive, though! And they only had Huggies.

If you don't want to worry about buying them once you get there, you could always ship a package ahead w/ diapers, wipes, etc. That's what I did.

Diapers are one thing I always carry with me. Since I buy them on sale and use coupons, I know I'll save some and probably a lot. The space they take up on the way down is perfect for putting souvenirs in on the way home.

Don't count on being able to buy them in all the gift shops! We normally go back to our room for a mid day break and I reload the bag with more diapers etc. then but one day on our last trip the kids were sleeping so soundly in the stroller that DH and I decided we'd hang out at the parks while they slept. We ended up staying for the rest of the night. I changed my almost 2 year old into the last diaper we had with us around 8 PM. Shortly before Illuminations he had a monstor poop and I had no new diaper. I remembered hearing I could buy them at gift shops so I started asking around. I went into at least 7 or 8 shops and no one had them. I walked to the baby care center but by the time I got there it was closed. We had to ride on a bus all the way back to our room at VWL with him VERY stinky and not comfortable.

I only had to deal with being unable to find a diaper for that one evening but I'd hate to have gone counting on buying them in the shops for the whole week and then not being able to find them. Most of the times the CMs in the shops told me they never have diapers and couldn't understand why I thought they did.

That said...for our trip next week I'm trying to have as little baggage as possible to deal with since it's just me and my 2 DSs so I am shipping a box down to the Poly with diapers and snacks and stuff before we leave. I bought a box that is like 12X18X12 from a U-haul place for like $2.50 and based on what I have packed in it now, I can ship it there for about $5 to $7. Well worth it not to have to have that bulky stuff with me getting through the airport! We are not big souvenier people (in the last 2 trips combined we've not bought enough stuff to take up the space the diapers would fill) so I doubt I'll be coming home with much more than an extra tee shirt or two.

Pack them in a compression bag, either a ziploc type, or a cloth one with straps like you get in a camping dept. for pillows. You can pack a couple of dozen in about 5 inches of space if you squash them down really well.

BTW, *NEVER* fly with less than 24 hours of supplies for baby in your carryon bag. Diapers, wipes, clothes and food. You never know when you might end up stranded in an airport or sitting on a runway for hours. Trust me on this, I learned it the hard way.

The front pocket on a suitcase is a great place to put diapers. if you take your time and layer them just right you can get a lot in there. (I got about 40 size 4 diapers in there) That is what I did. And I had room to take other stuff home. That is one item that I did not want to have to buy. As they can cost almost $1 a diaper. Also you can always take a box as a piece of luggage and fill it with diapers and wipes. When all 3 of us went we were able to take 6 pieces of luggage. So take advantage of being able to take a box. YOu never know. You might need it for the way home.

Just to give you an idea of the outrageous markup on single diapers, I had to buy one at an airport last month and they were 99 cents EACH! And, they had a very limited selection. I agree with the other posters that it would probably be worth it to pack them or ship them ahead of time. Or, if you are using town car service to get to the hotel from the airport, many of them make grocery stops so you could buy them there instead of trying to find them on Disney property.

On our last trip with my daughter, she was in size 4s so I bought the package of 32 Pampers which really isn't very big and packed it. Then I put more in a large ziploc and carried those in my diaper bag. I also put a refill pack of wipes in a ziploc bag because that took up much less space than the plastic containers.

netgrocer.com also ships diapers and other groceries... makes things very easy (but not always cheap!)

for the mom w/the stinky kid (my sympathies... btdt!), i found that every bathroom at wdw had a diaper changing "table" and a vending machine w/diapers in it... never saw them in the gift shops at the parks, only hotel gift shops (near the sundries)... i realize that this does not help you now...

wegoshop.com will do your shopping for you and deliver to your resort. Their service charge is reasonable and they will shop at the store of your choice.

We ran out of diapers for our then-17 month old on our last trip. Fortunately, we had a car so we drove to Gooding's to buy more, but even there they were outrageously expensive. I agree with everyone else - either ship them ahead or find some way to pack them. I hate spending vacation money on diapers when I'd rather be spending it on something else!

Amazon.com also ships diapers, so that might be an option if you have them put detailed info on the box about your check in. Others can probably advise on that. They had size 4 huggies for $7.50 jumbo size. free shipping if you spend over $25. The made some changes to the regular huggies and I have found them to be very leak resistant!

We packed a rolling duffle with stuff like diapers, swimsuits & other squishables. Many things from that bag were used up so we had extra room for the trip home. We used it for laundry and put gift items in our suitcase. It worked out very well.

Also, one thing with size 4 diapers. I have had a very difficult time finding them for the past few months. It seems like my regular supermarket is almost always out of them (I like pampers cruisers but will take what I can get sometimes) and even amazon.com is often out of 4s. I wouldn't take that chance while on vacation.
