Buying daffodils from catalogs

Hi. I have a question.
In 1996 I got a catalog from a bulb company. I purchased over $100 on pretty daffodils. They were white with fluffy pink centers. None of them grew.
I also bought pink tulips with green stripes from this same company. These tulips had the greens grow, but no stems or flowers. In fact, I put a little ring of pebbles around the spot where these tulips were planted. Even this year the greens are there, but no flowers.

Yesterday afternoon I got a catalog from this same company. What was in the catalog? Those same white daffodils with fluffy pink centers and the pink tulips with green stripes. In fact, the photos in that catalog are exactly the same photos used in the catalog I purchased from in 1996.

Has anyone else had luck growing these bulbs? Is there a reason why my pretty expensive bulbs never grew? I have a ton of other bulbs bought from places like KMart, Lowes, etc. that had no trouble growing, but why didn't these bulbs grow?

Looking at those photos of the pretty white daffodils with pink centers made me wish I had these. I was even thinking of ordering more to see if I can get them to grow in next Spring. I've never seen white daffodils with pink centers in retail stores or garden shops locally. Is this because they really don't grow or what?

I'd really like a white and pink garden spot.

Welcome back, disneysnowflake! :sunny:

Not one of your bulbs bloomed? Oh wow, I'd certainly be disappointed, and annoyed! I hope you contacted the mail order company? If so, what did they say?

I don't know what the problem was/is. Inferior bulbs, stored below freezing for too long, could be lots of things. One thing for sure, I wouldn't order from them again!!

I know there are white and pink daffodils available, the following link shows one variety, but I'd be very reluctant to mail order again, after you last experience. Perhaps you could change your focus to other pink and white flowers?

About 8 years ago, I bought a "Pink Color Collection" from what I considered a reputable company, I kept the ad in my garden diary, planted the bulbs. The varieties were Angelique Tulips, Pink Impression Tulips, (these were the nicest), Salome Daffodils and Oxalis. Well, the results were never like the picture but the daffodils were the largest disappointment, because if there is any pink in them, I don't see it. However, now, only the daffodils have made it for all of these years, and whenever I see them I have to smile and remember how I wanted that Pink Garden.

In my garden's soil, those pink daffodils are a bust, too.

That's too bad. They sound lovely. I've had a very disappointing year for bulbs. The common yellow daffodils, 3 red tulips, a few hyacinths are so far the only bulbs that have come up. I'm not complaining to the company because there are many reasons why my bulbs didn't make it. Could have been planted too deep. Someone added mulch burying them. Animals that might have disturbed them.
