Buying an iPod

Hi

Two questions if I may. Flying out on Sunday and I want an iPod .

i) Which model should I get. Looking for no more than say a thousand track storage

ii) Do I buy at Duty-Free on the way out or in The States?

My husband bought an ipod went we went in March. He bought the 4gb one and it holds a 1000 songs. We got it from the Ipod shop in one of the malls, i've forgotten the name of it sorry. It wasn't the Florida mall but 1 similar, it was quite posh

It cost him $199 and compared to the Apple Store website thats about £30 cheaper than over here.

He's really pleased with his, i think he's already loaded 650 songs onto it!

I would do some research into the different models of iPod available and then I would also research the best prices available in the internet for UK delivery. You will then be able to make an informed choice about whether you are getting a good price or not when you go into the malls

If you only want to store about 1,000 tracks on it, then you'll definately want an 4GB IPod-mini rather than the full blown IPod. It's what I've got - mine is only 25% full and already has over 200 tracks on it and I recorded those on the highest quality setting.

According to the official Apple website, this model is $199 in the US and £139 in the UK (although some stores may sell it cheaper if you look around). Without VAT (i.e. the price you'd pay at Duty Free), the UK price would be about £119. Meanwhile at today's tourist rate, the US one works out cheaper at only £112.

Thanks for your replies. I work with two people who bought one on their trip to New York. One difference I can see is you need an AC Adaptor convertor.

The other problem with buying in the US is VAT and import duty if you go over your allowance,
