Can you buy an extra day on your tickets and use it to go to 2 parks one day instead of having to buy the park hopper?

Can't be done
The non-PH passes are one park per day - if you try to enter a second park, they will not let you in.

If you bought a 2 day pass w/out the park hopper option...and used 1 of the days in one park in the morning, and the other day at another park in the afternoon...that would probably work, right??
But I have to wonder why you wouldn't just buy a 1 day pass w/ the park hopper option?
Or am I misunderstanding the question completely??

Sorry no. Buying an extra ticket is cheaper than hopper, yes and WDW knows that.

So when you buy your "tickets" you are not actually buying tickets to enter a park. You are buying 1 park entry per day. You get to choose which park to use that at.

Hoppers are the only way to get into 2 different parks in one day.

No, it wouldn't work. As pp have stated, the ticket machines prohibit this.
It seems like an attractive option because it's cheaper than buying a park hopper, but Disney knows that ;) and that's why it's not allowed.

Interesting! Not something I ever even thought about...we never do less than a 5 day park hopper. LOL.

Nope- the computer knows. If you try to use a ticket at a 2nd park the same day without park hopper, it will reject it.

Everyone's pretty much answered the question already, but I wanted to say welcome!

And don't worry-this is a question almost everyone asks when they join :)

If I'm not mistaken, to add the hopper option to a one day ticket is $37.27 vs buying another single ticket $90.53 to use the same day...cheaper to add the hopper to your existing ticket. These prices are taken from allears.

Nope that doesnt work at all, but if you really dont want a hopper for some reason, you could buy 2 separate tickets for each member of the party. It would be really expensive, but it could be done.

I thought hoppers were $50 a ticket? I could be wrong though.

Well, the other way to do it would be to buy two separate 1 day tickets and use one of these to visit each park. But that would cost more than the hopper. And it can't be done on a multiday ticket without hoppers.

A base ticket is one major (theme) park per day. You are allowed to re-enter the same park if you leave it on one day, but it can only be used at the one park.

Note that the ticket will state on it either "Not Valid For Park Hopping" or "One Theme Park Per Day". That should be a hint.

If you put the ticket in the turnstile of another park the display on the Guest side of the turnstile will be "ACCESS DENIED". The top line of the display on the Greeter side will give information about the ticket, and the second line of the display will say "CROSSOVER NOT PERMITTED". The turnstile will not unlock.

This is because Disney charges $8.00 per day over four days on a ticket, but charges $55 to allow hopping. It does not make economic sense for Disney to allow this.

If you actually have multiple tickets (more than one physical ticket per person) as opposed to multiple day tickets, you can use these tickets for multiple entries. But it makes absolutely no economic sense as a separate ticket costs a lot more than adding hopping to a ticket.

Or, as I have occasionally told Guests who were arguing with me about using a different day on the ticket: (note day of week stated can vary)

The turnstile computer thinks today is Friday. The turnstile computer at the other park also thinks today is Friday. The two turnstile computers talk to each other. If you can convince this turnstile computer that today is not the same Friday as the other computer thinks, it will let you in.

The cost to add hopping (or WPF&M) is $55 ($58.58 including tax) per ticket. It does not matter if it is adult or child, two days or ten days, first day of use or last day of use, the price is the same. (For a Florida Resident it is $27 plus tax.) (Note to add hopping to a one day ticket is $35 ($37.28 including tax).)

So if you are not sure, don't order them. If you find you do need them, then upgrade your tickets at any ticket window or Guest Relations Office. It only takes a minute or so.

Nothing to add.
