Buying an AP for the 1st time ?s

We are planning to buy APs for our upcoming visit in June. We won't get to the DLR until late evening. Where do we go to get them and what do we do from there? And can we charger them to our Disney Visa? TIA!

A Ticket booth outside the gates, or passholder service inside the gates. Any Visa is fine, or mastercard, amex.....


Because AP may involve blackout days and don't allow for Morning Magic.

Depending on how you planned your trip you may want to buy a 3day bonus parkhopper, use the MM, use it during blackout days, then upgrade it to your AP. Though weigh those possiblities against the AP discount you can recieve on dining and merchandise.

Thanks for the tips, but we are staying onsite (MM!) and our only blackout day will be the day we leave.

Just a regular ticket booth.

Since you get MM anyway that isn't a factor.

You might want to upgrade right before you leave if you want to go on that black out day. Elsewise a blackout day ticket is $50 and a Premium Pass has no blackout days.

But you can if you haven't, see if you can get an AP rate on your stay. You need the AP in hand when you check in, not before. So walk over and pick up an AP then check in to the hotel.

You can purchase the AP at any ticket booth. There is at least one open till the park closes. If you are staying on site, I am pretty sure you can also purchase them right at the front desk of the resort hotel when you check in!

FYI if you are a current or retired California teacher or are related to one you can get discounted tickets and APs thru the California Teachers Associated. I did this last year. (I have a lot of current and former family members who teach in CA. My DW used to teach elementary school in San Diego as well. The author of the thread below is an educator and happens to be my SIL.)

If you get the tickets before you go it will impact MMs - you will not get any as compared to starting with parkhoppers - as others have said. We stayed at the GCH so it did not matter. But you do start getting your food and merchandise discounts on Day 1.

We are staying at the Grand California. My husband is active duty military and they told us the military discount and the AP discount is the same for the hotels... he called 3 different times, talked to 3 different CMs and the 3rd one was the charm b/c she offered us the best deal on room rates.

That is great news we can get them at the hotel, will save us a lot of time at the gates that Sunday evening. Will we still need to go to the AP station inside DL (I think I remember seeing it by Coke Corner) and get photo IDs or how does that work?

You will need to go to the AP processing center if it is your first time so they can take your picture.

You are right - the AP center in DL is by Coke Corner. If you are going at a busy time, you may want to try the DCA processing center (I think it is in Greetings in California) as it may have shorter lines.
