Does anyone know if and where you can buy beer and wine in Nassau to bring back on the Dream?
Thank you

Hi, yes, you can buy alcohol in Nassau. After you exit the main route off the ship, take a right onto the main inner shopping street (sorry i do not know names) There are several liquor stores on the right side of the street. You have to buy the beer by the bottle, they also have smaller sized bottles of liquor as well. I actually brought my collapsible cooler off the ship with me to stock up. The prices are much less on the street than in the tourist section you will be directed through right off the ship. It is easier than this email sounds!
Have a great time!

DW and I found a liquor store down one of the side paths off of the main road in the Straw Market area. Lady there was a hoot, for every taste we had, she had one too. She was LIT UP! LOL :)

I wish I could remember the path there, because I sure was not able to remember the path back. LOL

It's almost like here in Wisconsin. There is a liqour store every few feet once you get into downtown. :rotfl: Many of the stores will let you taste test rum too! I finally used one of the two liters I purchased on my trips. We also got some bottled water and canned sodas to take back to the ship just in case we were too lazy to go to the beverage station. It's probably a block away once you get out of the vistors center.

Are you allowed to use the liquor that you buy in Nassau or does DCL "hold" it until you are done with your cruise?

How are the prices on board compaired to Nassau??

Thanks for your info!!

You're allowed to bring back to your room and drink it there. As for price comparison, we bought local Caribbean rum that was not available in the onboard duty free shop, so I have no answers for you there...

A year from this week my daughter and I will be on the Fantasy and not in cold CNY State. If I understand correctly, I don't need to worry about bring lots of alcohol on board when we first arrive because I can buy it at our first port in the Grand Caymen. I've travelled on the Princess Cruise and the alcohol is taken when you get on the ship and not seen till you disembark. So I can buy in port and carry it to my room for future trip use?

Yes you can either bring it on board with you right away when you embark in a soft sided cooler or pick it up in port and drink it on the ship.(That's the case in Nassau at least) If you buy it on the ship they hold it for you and bring it to you wrapped up in a box on your last night and you pack it in your luggage which you then leave outside your door to be picked up for debark.
Here is a pic of what one of the rum liters looks like: http://tinkmomfoodie-foodobsession.blogspot.com/2011/03/why-is-rum-not-gone-bananas-foster-with.html

Don't buy at first store. Shop and compare prices. There are a few liquor stores less then 100yds from each other.

Thanks everyone for all of your helpful tips! At least I know that I will be able to stock up if need be.

They let us carry back our liquor. Prices are very good at least the vodka. I bought a bottle of Smiroff for $7.00 and Stoli cost around $10.00 750ml size. Scotch, Bourbon and other liquors were all priced relatively cheap.

This is great info. I was wondering how I would acquire alcohol to bring on board since we are flying in the day before and taking ME to AKL, then the DCL bus to the port. I assume there are no convenient liquor stores at port!?

Our first day we are in Nassau so this should give us a good chance to get a few beverages for the remainder of the cruise. Do you know if it must be consumed on board? I'm thinking this will not be a problem! But wondering if we can bring it off with us if there is any left.

DW and I found nice liquor store a few shops down from Straw Market on the street that is next to the water. Bought 6 beers and 2 bottles of rum for $15. No problem bringing it back to ship. Iced beer down in room and enjoyed in Quiet Cove Pool!!!!! Have a great time.

Someone please correct me if I'm wrong...I think that Grand Caymen is the only port that will not let you bring alcohol back on board with you. I swear I read this on the DIS before and experienced it myself when doing the Western cruise quite a few years ago.:confused3 The old mind isn't what it used to be.

Your mind is still sharp! We were not allowed to bring alcohol back onto the ship when we cruised in February. It is written in very small print on the duty free price list they issue on disembarkation day.
