In layman's terms, please!

I'm going to buy a Wii system for Christmas. What do I NEED to have to get started?

1. Console
2. Wii-remotes (2)
3. Motion Plus (do I need these or does it just depend upon which games I get?)
4. Nunchuks (2)
5. Charger?

*I already bought the Rock Band 2 Bundle a while back (on sale) -- that includes the game and instruments.
*I also plan on buying separately, Beatles Rock Band, Super Mario Bros. and something else.

There is a bundle that comes out next week that includes the console and Super Mario Bros. -- I'm thinking about doing that, but I'm sure I'll need to buy an extra remote and an extra nunchuk since it only comes with one each. Do I need a charger if there is an AC adaptor or is the charger for the remotes? Very confused.

My DS7 has a DSi, but this is our first gaming system (and yes, it will be a Wii), so can someone please explain/break it down for me in simple terms? TIA!

popcorn:: Subbing cause I'm curious too. I already bought the Wii for Cmas too and I got everything you did. I did make sure to get the motion plus controllers (came with 1, bought an extra) because the gal at TRU told me they made it easier to play and you didn't have to stand directly in front of the TV....you can move around more. I also got DH the paintball game so I got him a gun controller and I just picked up Toy Story Mania last week.

My BIG question is, is there anything extra that is needed to connect the thing on Cmas morning. I want to be able to plug that baby in and play! I can't ask DH because this is a combo Santa gift to DH and DD!!!!

You do not NEED a charger, you can just use batteries.

The Motion sensor is game dependent. I don't have one so not even sure what games go with it.
Here is the Wiki List.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wii_MotionPlus

I do believe that the Wii Motion Plus is included in the black bundle as opposed to the white bundle.

They are having a 25th anniversary red console come out which is pretty snazzy.

I would keep your eye on the ads personally. Black Friday is coming up and you may find better bundles as we head toward it.

I'd recommend rechargable batteries if you go that route; or just get a charging dock/station and not worry about batteries.

like the previous post advised, the motion-plus only impacts certain games. If a game isn't on the list, then the motion-plus will have no impact on game play.

We went with a Docking Charging type thing best 20 bucks I ever spent I got my at Walmart.

When we got our Wii here's what we got with it. We are a family of 4 and we play together quite often.

4 Wiimotes total
2 nunchucks
charging station for 2 Wiimotes at a time
4 steering wheels

We also got Mario Party 8, Mario Kart Wii and a few other games. We added the Wii Fit later. We do not have any motion sensors, we have no games that need them. Not everyone needs (or wants) steering wheels but we wanted them and we love them for Mario Kart.

I agree both of those options are needed for the Wii. When I first got my Wii I was using regular batteries and I saw how fast they ended up dying. I thought about a buy the docking station but later on I bought a battery charager for $8 and few packs of rechargable batteries.

:thumbsup2

We bought the Wii charger, got used for a few weeks, ended up using the rechargeable batteries and charger we already had instead. You don't NEED the Wii charger-just get one in the battery section at the store and an extra set of batteries so you can have one set in the controllers and one set charging.

Oh, and you can stream Netflix movies through your Wii :thumbsup2.

Look around for the best bundle for your family. We needed three Wiimotes, so we bought a Wii Sports bundle with two and two nunchucks, then bought an extra wiimote and nunchuck. No need for the Motion plus unless you have a specific game that calls for it. As far as batteries, we use rechargables and have never had a problem with it.

Thanks everyone, for your replies.

Good to know re: the Motion Plus and that I don't need the Wii charger. That new red one that I'm thinking about getting is this:

http://www.target.com/Limited-Conso...om_size-bin,target_com_brand-bin&frombrowse=0

Does that seem like a good deal? My DS has mentioned that he likes that Mario game at his friend's house which is why I figured I could kill two birds with one stone. Also, it looks like the remote that comes with it is a Wii Remote Plus (which already includes the motion part already built in). Not that we necessarily need that, but that may be what they start including now instead of just regular remotes . . . ?? That way I'll only have to buy one extra remote and one extra nunchuk (and the rechargeable batteries) to get us started. Does that sound right?

Yes, because those are two awesome games (at least, the ones we play the most). Looks like a good deal!

Looks like a great deal. Can't go wrong with Mario or Sonic. Seems like kids love those games. I think that Mario game is still going around $50, can't remember how we got the Wii sports (if it came with or we had to buy separately).

My son bought this:
http://www.target.com/Dual-Charge-S...rand-bin,price&searchRank=pmrank&frombrowse=1

I think he was going to order it and found it cheaper in the store.

As for the wii-mote being a remote plus, I am not seeing it (or am I thinking of something different? I thought the plus was that thing that attached to the bottom of the wii-mote?).

Sometime before Xmas we found the knock-off steering wheels at Meijer's for under $5. They work the same as the Nintendo branded ones, it's just a solid piece of plastic.

(ETA: My kids are only allowed to play video games on weekends or non-school days/nights. We don't run into a problem with the wii-motes not being charged. They have limited video game play time. They also play a bit on the xbox also. We have chargeable packs for those also, but they have a cord that can be attached to the game pad that allows it to charge while playing.)

"Includes Red Wii Console, Red Wii Remote™ Plus, Red Nunchuk, Wii Sports and New Super Mario Bros.™ Wii game pack.

It appears that the Motion Plus is an attachment to a regular remote, however, according to Nintendo's website:

The Wii Remote Plus controller combines the intuitive motion controls of the original Wii Remote with the precision technology of the Wii MotionPlus accessory, all built-in to a single unit. The Wii Remote Plus also packs a speaker, rumble feature, and external connector for other input devices, like the Nunchuk™ controller and the Classic Controller™.

I looked at the pic and didn't see it attached. I am thinking of the right thing but it doesn't appear to be shown on the pic of the game system and wii-mote.

(It is what I was thinking of, just must be a newer version. It's obvious when it's on there. They must have integrated it into the wii-mote. That is a better idea. I can just imagine someone not having it secured properly and it go flying off. )
