we bought a used dvc and couldn't be happier! A friend of mine is interested into buying not a dvc but a Marriott time share. Are there companies like the ones who sell used dvc?

First, all timeshares are used after day 1, LOL. There are many options for buying a Marriott. Ebay, redweeks, TUG etc. Not that I'm intimately up on who's the best right now, I don't want to get too specific on this subject for a DVC board but anyone can contact me directly on this subject if they want. I do own 9 Marriott weeks and a few Marriott Trust points.

Once one knows what they want, it's bests to check with as many people as possible. Decide what one wants and what they are willing to pay then go out and find it. Don't be afraid to make offers and be turned down. I don't have any specific people I work with anymore but I did buy some Marriott Trust points a couple of yrs ago and talked to them about another Grande Ocean week. They were willing to go find it but we couldn't get the price right. I get the sense that many companies cobroker these or make deals on the fly. Just realize a top option (like Grande Ocean platinum) isn't likely to be the cheap timeshare that gets discussesd around here but a trading option to use part of the time, like Grand Vista, can be fairly inexpensive.

My Resort Network is also good to find other timeshares, both for rent or for sale.

Thanks everyone for your help I will pass along this info for my friend! Is it "safe" to purchase through eBay to buy a timeshare?

you have to do a lot of homework and due diligence yourself.

the seller may be selling multiple timeshares and get the descriptions confused in the ad. so they may advertise "red season" but it's really not a high demand week, they might say the unit is oceanfront when the unit number doesn't match that, or things like that.

again, TUG is a great resource. i think they have a thread discussing some of the more common ebay resellers which is pretty useful...and they have more suggestions for things to watch for when buying on ebay.
