Buying a ticket from a third party vendor question

If we buy 4 day base tickets from a third party vendor and decide we want to add on either an extra day or park hopper, how do we do it? Do you have to be at WDW and visit guest services or can you do it from home and just call guest services? Thanks!

We just did this. Purchased 7 day PH's from Undercover Tourist, went to the ticket booth and added an extra day for 2 people for 20 bucks and change.

You do not need to use any of the ticket before upgrading (but you CAN, if you like.)
The upgrade price will not be affected.

You can upgrade as late as close-of-business on the same day that you use a ticket's last asset.
